Product Description
Quick to knit baby booties. They feature a Garter rib sole and Stockinette instep for optional pearls or beads to be sewn on after. Eyelets on the cuff make changing the ribbon color quick and easy.
I used remnants of a skein I had, my best guess would be about 100 yards or so.
Booties measure about 3 inches from toe to heel.
Morning Dew Newborn Booties by Flora and Fauna Knitwear Design
What Is Being Made
The Morning Dew Newborn Booties are quick-to-knit baby booties designed for newborns, with a finished size of approximately 3 inches from heel to toe. These booties feature a charming design that combines practical construction with decorative elements, making them an ideal project for creating soft, comfortable footwear for infants.
Craft and Technique Overview
This is a knitting project suitable for those with advanced beginner skill level. The booties are constructed using a combination of knitting techniques that create both functional and aesthetic elements. The design incorporates eyelets in the front, which serve a practical purpose by allowing ribbon to be threaded through, making it quick and easy to adjust the fit or change the ribbon color. The pattern also includes optional embellishments such as pearls or beads that can be sewn on after the knitting is complete, adding a decorative touch to the finished booties.
Stitches and Construction Methods Used
The Morning Dew Newborn Booties employ several key knitting stitches and techniques:
- Garter Stitch – used for the sole, creating a textured, non-slip base
- Stockinette Stitch – used for the instep, providing a smooth, refined appearance
- Yarn Over (yo) – creates the decorative eyelets in the front of the booties
- Decreases (k2tog, p2tog) – used throughout the instep shaping to create proper fit and structure
- Slip Stitch (s1) – worked both knit-wise and purl-wise to create clean edges
- Bind Off – used to finish edges securely
- Working in the Round – the booties are constructed using circular knitting methods with double-pointed needles or magic loop technique
Materials: Yarn and Needles
The Morning Dew Newborn Booties are knitted with fingering weight yarn, which is a 4-ply yarn weight. This delicate yarn weight is ideal for creating soft, finely-detailed baby garments. The pattern calls for size 2 double-pointed needles (dpn's) or alternatively, the magic loop method can be used for circular knitting. The recommended gauge is 28 stitches over 4 inches, which equals 7 stitches per inch, ensuring proper fit and drape for newborn feet.
