Product Description
Moorside Infinity is a stylish, textured infinity scarf. Wear it long and loopy, or wear it double-wrapped for that extra warmth, or even just wear it as a simple straight scarf (without joining ends).
The Moorside stitch pattern is complex-looking, but it is simple in its application. This makes for a uniquely original stitch pattern that results in a lacy appearance, but produces an extremely cosy and stretchy fabric.
The scarf also has a delightfully pleasing reverse side, so your scarf will look great whichever way you wear it!
Size & resizing: Finished, looped and blocked size is: 18cm wide x 62.5cm long (7” x 24.5”). If you want to make this piece a straight scarf, then use any standard cast on method, work the piece to 170cm (67”) or your desired length and bind off using any standard bind off method.
Moorside Infinity Scarf by JimiKnits
What Is Being Made
The Moorside Infinity is a versatile, textured infinity scarf designed by JimiKnits. This cowl-style scarf offers multiple styling options: wear it long and loopy, double-wrapped for extra warmth, or as a simple straight scarf without joining the ends. The infinity construction allows for flexible wear depending on personal preference and weather conditions.
Techniques Used
This knitting project employs several intermediate-level techniques that create visual interest while remaining accessible to experienced knitters. The pattern features a provisional cast-on method (using waste yarn and a crochet hook), which allows for seamless joining of the scarf ends. The scarf is completed using grafting and weaving-in techniques to finish the edges professionally. Despite its complex appearance, the Moorside stitch pattern is straightforward in application, making it an innovative design that achieves sophisticated results through clever stitch construction.
Stitches and Stitch Pattern
The Moorside stitch pattern creates a distinctive lacy appearance while producing a stretchy, cosy fabric. The pattern repeats approximately 0.65 times per 2.5cm (1 inch), resulting in a fabric with excellent drape and elasticity. The stitch pattern is engineered to look more complex than it actually is, making this an ideal project for knitters seeking visual impact without excessive difficulty.
Materials and Tools
- Yarn: 2 x 100g skeins of Aran weight yarn (or 3 skeins if making a straight scarf version). The pattern suggests The Plucky Knitter "Plucky Rustic" in colourway Edwardian Blue, which is 100% Merino at 165 yards per skein.
- Needles: 5mm (US 8) needles, or the size required to achieve proper gauge
- Additional Tools: Waste yarn, crochet hook for provisional cast-on, 2 stitch markers, measuring tape, and yarn needle for grafting and weaving in ends
- Gauge: 15.6 stitches x 26.4 rows, approximately 0.65 pattern repeats per 2.5cm (1 inch)
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate, suitable for knitters with solid foundational skills who are ready to explore more sophisticated stitch patterns and finishing techniques such as provisional cast-ons and grafting.
