Product Description

Mixage is a box-style structured sweater, featuring a diagonal slash made with travelling cables. The horizontal tramline braids on the front of the sweater and on the right sleeve are applied using a crochet hook. All pieces are knitted flat and from the bottom up. Other areas are covered with a series of “Dotty” purl stitches. Once all pieces are blocked and seamed, the neck is picked up and knitted in the round.

Mixage Unisex Sweater by JimiKnits

What is Being Made

Mixage is a unisex, box-style structured sweater featuring bold diagonal crossed cabling across the front and one sleeve. The design combines multiple stitch techniques to create visual interest and texture throughout the garment. This intermediate-level knitting project is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to work with cables and decorative stitch patterns.

Construction Method

The sweater is knitted flat in separate pieces and constructed from the bottom up. This approach allows for easier shaping and modification of individual sections. Once all pieces are completed, they are seamed together using standard seaming techniques. The pattern includes detailed seaming process help and links to instructional technique videos to guide knitters through assembly.

Stitch Techniques and Details

  • Diagonal Crossed Cabling: Travelling cables create a striking diagonal slash pattern across the front of the sweater and on one sleeve, adding dynamic visual movement to the design.
  • Tramline Braiding: Horizontal tramline braids in a contrasting colour are applied to the front of the sweater and the right sleeve using a crochet hook, creating defined linear accents against the main fabric.
  • Dotty Purl Stitches: An even texture of purl stitches covers all remaining areas of the sweater, providing a subtle, textured background that complements the more prominent cable and braiding details.

Yarn and Materials

Mixage is designed to work with DK or Worsted weight yarn, offering flexibility in yarn choice depending on desired drape and finished size. The sample shown was knitted in Worsted weight using Harvest Hues by John Arbon Textiles in the colourways Blue Spruce and Barley, demonstrating how colour contrast enhances the tramline braiding detail. Knitters will need appropriate needles for their chosen yarn weight, as well as a crochet hook for applying the tramline braids.

Sizing and Modifications

The pattern sample is shown in Medium size. The design accommodates customization, as evidenced by the sample's narrower sleeves modification, allowing knitters to adjust the fit to their preferences while maintaining the integrity of the cable and braiding design elements.
