Metropolis Cardigan by LillaBjörnCrochet

What is Being Made

The Metropolis Cardigan is an original crochet design by Tatsiana Kupryianchyk of LillaBjörnCrochet. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a wearable cardigan sweater using crochet techniques. The pattern is available in multiple sizes, ranging from size 7 through size 13, allowing crafters of various dimensions to customize the finished garment to their measurements.

Crochet Techniques and Construction

This intermediate-level crochet project employs fundamental crochet construction methods suitable for crafters with some experience. The pattern uses standard UK crochet terminology and abbreviations, including chain stitches and other essential crochet techniques to build the cardigan structure. Crafters should be prepared to work with gauge considerations, as the pattern notes that yarn requirements may vary depending on individual gauge and crochet style—some makers may need additional yarn beyond the recommended amounts.

Stitches Used

  • Chain stitch (ch) – foundational stitch used throughout the pattern for creating the base chains and structural elements

The pattern utilizes UK crochet terminology, which differs from US crochet stitch names. Crafters familiar with UK crochet conventions will find the abbreviations and instructions straightforward to follow.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Metropolis Cardigan is designed to be worked with Metropolis yarn by Scheepjes, a premium yarn blend composed of 75% Merino extra fine and 25% Nylon. This fiber composition provides both softness and durability, with the nylon content adding strength and elasticity to the finished garment.

Yarn weight classification for this project is 4-ply, a medium-weight yarn suitable for creating garments with good drape and structure. Each ball contains 50 grams (1.76 ounces) and 219 yards (200 meters) of yarn.

Yarn requirements vary by size:

  • 7 balls for the smallest size
  • 8 balls for size 8
  • 9 balls for size 9
  • 10 balls for size 10
  • 11 balls for size 11
  • 12 balls for size 12
  • 13 balls for the largest size

Crafters should note that depending on individual gauge and crochet style, additional yarn beyond these recommendations may be necessary to complete the project successfully.

Tools Required

A 3mm crochet hook is specified for working with the recommended Metropolis yarn by Scheepjes. Hook size may be adjusted based on personal gauge and desired fabric characteristics.

Pattern Format and Use

This pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF, making it accessible for immediate use once purchased. The pattern is intended for personal use only and cannot be sold, redistributed, or edited. Crafters are permitted to sell finished garments created from this pattern, though the designer's original photography and images should not be used for promotional purposes. Proper credit to LillaBjörnCrochet and designer Tatsiana Kupryianchyk should always be noted when discussing or sharing information about finished projects.
