Marley and Molly Mouse Amigurumi by BabyCrochetDesigns
What Is Being Made
Marley and Molly Mouse Amigurumi is a downloadable crochet pattern for creating two adorable stuffed mouse toys. These handmade amigurumi characters are designed to measure approximately 13 inches tall and feature charming details including safety eyes, embroidered facial features, and customizable clothing options with dress and dungarees variations. The pattern is written in US crochet terminology and is suitable for intermediate-level crocheters looking to create huggable toy companions.
Techniques Used
This amigurumi pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques for creating three-dimensional stuffed toys. The construction method involves working in continuous rounds using a spiral technique for most body components, which creates seamless, organic shapes ideal for stuffed animals. The pattern incorporates the magic circle cast-on method to begin pieces with minimal center holes. Specific shaping techniques include strategic increases and decreases to form the mouse's head, body, and limbs. Additional embroidery work is required for fine details such as eyelashes using black embroidery thread and a pink nose, adding personality and dimension to the finished toys.
Stitches Used
- Single Crochet (sc) – The primary stitch used throughout the pattern for building structure and density in the amigurumi pieces
- Double Crochet (dc) – Incorporated for specific sections, including the dress and dungarees components
- Increase (inc) – Crochet two stitches in the next stitch to expand rounds and shape the mouse's proportions
- Decrease (dec) – Crochet two stitches together to reduce stitch count and refine shaping
- Back Loops Only (Blo) – Selective stitch placement using only the back loop for textural variation
Materials Required
This pattern uses DK weight yarn as the primary material, requiring approximately 50 grams of beige yarn for the main mouse body and 35 grams of contrasting color yarn for accents and clothing details. A 2mm crochet hook is the recommended size for working with DK yarn. Additional materials include polyester toy filling for stuffing, a needle for assembly and embroidery work, 10mm safety eyes or black yarn as an alternative for eyes, black embroidery thread for eyelashes, and pink yarn for embroidering the nose. The pattern offers flexibility for creating larger mice by substituting aran or worsted weight yarn with a 2.5mm hook, or chunky yarn with a 3.5mm hook for an even bigger finished size.
