Marjorie June Blanket by Nett Motherbear
Project Overview
The Marjorie June Blanket is an original crochet design created by Nett Motherbear, available as a downloadable PDF pattern. This blanket project is suitable for crocheters with intermediate-level skills and uses DK weight yarn, making it an accessible yet engaging make for those with some crochet experience.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a finished blanket or throw, ideal for home décor, gifting, or personal use. The design showcases creative stitch work and texture, making it a visually interesting project that combines multiple crochet techniques into a cohesive finished piece.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Marjorie June Blanket employs several intermediate crochet techniques to create visual interest and dimension:
- Puff stitches – a textured stitch created by repeating yarn over and insert hook sequences to build loops on the hook before pulling through all loops at once, adding dimensional texture to the fabric
- Double crochet stitches – a foundational stitch used throughout the pattern for structure and drape
- Treble stitches – taller stitches that create openness and flow in the fabric
- Decrease techniques – specifically double crochet together (4dctog) for shaping and stitch reduction
- Slip stitches – used for joining rounds and finishing edges
- Chain stitches – the foundation of all crochet work, used for creating the base and increasing fabric width
Stitches and Abbreviations
The pattern uses standard US crochet terminology with the following stitch abbreviations: ch (chain), yo (yarn over), sl st (slip stitch), tr (treble), dc (double crochet), and ps (puff stitch). The puff stitch is detailed in the pattern instructions as a multi-step technique involving repeated yarn overs and hook insertions, closed with a chain stitch. The 4dctog (double crochet 4 stitches together) decrease is explained through step-by-step loop management, demonstrating the intermediate complexity of this design.
Materials Required
This project uses DK weight yarn, a lighter yarn weight that creates a fabric with good drape and definition, ideal for showcasing stitch detail in a blanket. Crocheters will also need an appropriately sized crochet hook to match the DK yarn weight, typically in the 3.5–4.0mm range, though specific hook size should be confirmed in the full pattern instructions.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate, the Marjorie June Blanket is designed for crocheters who are comfortable with basic stitches and ready to expand their skills. The combination of puff stitches, decreases, and multi-stitch techniques requires attention to detail and familiarity with reading crochet patterns, making it an ideal next-step project for those moving beyond beginner patterns.
