What Is Being Made

The Lobster Hat is a two-colored slouch-style hat designed by Connie Peng of yellowcosmo designs. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a finished hat measuring 20 inches in circumference and 10 inches tall, suitable for one size. The design features a distinctive color motif worked across the final 34 rounds before the ribbed cuff, creating visual interest through stranded colorwork technique.

Construction Method

This hat is constructed using a top-down method, meaning you begin knitting from the crown and work downward toward the brim. The entire hat is knitted in the round, which eliminates the need for seaming and creates a seamless, professional finish. The top-down approach allows for easy adjustments and try-ons during the knitting process.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

The Lobster Hat employs several fundamental and intermediate knitting techniques:

• Stranded colorwork: The two-color motif is created using the stranded method, where both yarn colors are carried across the back of the work and picked up as needed to create the pattern on the front of the fabric

Yarn and Materials

• Yarn B: 180 yards (sample used Quince and Co. Chicadee in Honey)

The pattern calls for two sizes of needles to accommodate different stitch densities.
