Product Description

Crochet Blanket PDF Pattern - Little Fluffy Clouds Baby Blanket

The pattern includes both the puff stitch and tapestry crochet. I have provided instructions for each, including photos; so even if you are new to these more intermediate crochet skills, hopefully you will still be confident to try. I wanted to make the pattern as easy to follow as possible so have included both a written pattern and a pattern chart. I have also included handy tips to try and avoid any confusion as I know how confusing patterns can be!

The blanket measures 31" x 33" (79cm x 84cm) and will fit a cot or pram/stroller. It is made with WI and Paintbox yarns, however it is not critical you use these and can substitute with the yarn of your choice.

Little Fluffy Clouds Baby Blanket by Eva Cassidy

Project Overview

The Little Fluffy Clouds Baby Blanket is a crocheted baby blanket designed by Eva Cassidy of sevenPMstitches. This intermediate-level crochet project creates a soft, cloud-themed blanket suitable for infants and young children. The design incorporates whimsical cloud motifs with a poetic inspiration, making it an ideal handmade gift for nurseries and baby showers.

Craft and Technique

This pattern is worked entirely in crochet, a versatile fiber craft that uses a single hook to create interlocking loops of yarn. The Little Fluffy Clouds Baby Blanket employs several specialized crochet techniques to achieve its distinctive texture and visual appeal.

Tapestry crochet is a primary technique used in this pattern. Tapestry crochet allows crafters to incorporate multiple colors into their work by carrying yarn colors inside stitches, creating detailed colorwork designs without frequent color changes. This technique is particularly effective for creating the cloud imagery and other design elements featured in the blanket.

Puff stitches are incorporated to add dimensional texture and a fluffy, cloud-like quality to the finished blanket. Puff stitches create raised, textured bumps that enhance the tactile experience and visual interest of the piece, reinforcing the "fluffy clouds" theme.

The pattern includes instruction on color changes, enabling crafters to transition smoothly between different yarn colors while maintaining an even appearance and professional finish.

Stitches Used

  • Half treble crochet – a fundamental stitch that provides structure and drape
  • Puff stitch – creates dimensional, textured elements resembling clouds
  • Standard crochet stitches – used throughout for foundation and pattern construction

Materials and Tools

The Little Fluffy Clouds Baby Blanket is worked with DK weight yarn, a lightweight yarn that creates a soft, delicate fabric ideal for baby blankets. The designer used Women's Institute Soft and Cuddly yarn, though crafters may substitute other DK weight options.

A 5mm crochet hook (US size I/9) is required to work with the DK yarn at the appropriate gauge. This hook size produces a fabric with good drape and softness suitable for a baby blanket.

Difficulty Level

Rated as intermediate, this pattern is suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to expand their technique repertoire. The pattern requires familiarity with basic crochet stitches and comfort learning specialized techniques such as tapestry crochet and puff stitches. Comprehensive pattern notes provide instruction on these techniques, making the pattern accessible to dedicated intermediate crafters.

Pattern Features

The downloadable PDF pattern includes detailed materials lists, yarn quantity requirements, complete abbreviation guides, and step-by-step pattern instructions. Pattern notes provide thorough explanations of specialized techniques including tapestry crochet methodology, half treble crochet construction, puff stitch execution, and color change techniques. The pattern also includes guidance on weaving in ends to create a polished finished product and features a pattern chart for visual reference during construction.
