The Lionheart Shawl is a top-down triangular shawl designed by Gabrielle Vézina. This three-color knitted accessory features a finished size of 51.5 inches (131 cm) wide at the top edge and 30 inches (76 cm) high at the point. The shawl is constructed with adaptable sections that can be repeated to customize the final size, making it a versatile project suitable for various preferences.
The Lionheart Shawl incorporates a diverse range of knitting techniques that create visual interest throughout the project. The design combines three distinct stitch pattern categories:
These techniques are blended together in a graceful manner across the shawl's construction. All stitch patterns used in the design should maintain the same gauge, though minor gauge variations are acceptable and will not significantly impact the finished project.
The shawl is worked from the top down, beginning at the wide top edge and decreasing toward the point. The pattern features repeatable main sections (sections 1 and 2) that can be worked multiple times to achieve a larger finished size. This adaptable structure allows knitters to customize the shawl dimensions to their exact specifications. The final section can be worked after any fully completed repeating section, providing flexibility in the finishing process.
The Lionheart Shawl is designed to be knit with fingering to DK weight yarn, accommodating a range of yarn weights within this category. The pattern calls for three coordinating colorways:
The total yardage requirements remain consistent across the specified yarn weight range. Knitters will need appropriate needles sized to achieve proper gauge with their chosen yarn, as well as any notions required for finishing (such as materials for tassels, if desired).
This project is rated at intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to explore more complex stitch patterns and colorwork techniques.
