Product Description
Beautiful and challenging potholders in leaf pattern. They are made in the round from corner to corner - this makes them double layered and seamless!
The leafy potholders are made in front/back post double crochet. This makes them very thick and safe to use.
There are 2 different sizes in the pattern: 15 x 15 cm (6x 6 in) and 19 x 19 cm (7.5 x 7.5 in).
The pattern har written instructions and a chart for both sizes.
For a set of the small size you will need 2 skeins, and for a set in the large size 4 skeins of 4ply cotton (165 m/50 g).
Lind Potholders by Sidsel Sangild
What is Being Made
The Lind Potholders are double-layered crochet potholders featuring a beautiful leaf pattern design. These seamless potholders are available in two finished sizes: small (15 x 15 cm or 6 x 6 inches) and large (19 x 19 cm or 7.5 x 7.5 inches). The double-layer construction provides practical heat protection while the leaf motif adds visual appeal to kitchen textiles.
Difficulty Level and Skill Requirements
This is an advanced-level crochet pattern that is not beginner-friendly. The design requires concentration and previous experience with post double crochet stitches. However, despite the technical demands, many crocheters find that the leaf pattern itself is intuitive once the foundational techniques are mastered.
Crochet Techniques Used
The pattern employs several advanced crochet techniques to create its sophisticated appearance:
- Post double crochet – the primary technique that requires working around the post of stitches from previous rows, creating dimensional texture
- Seamless construction – the potholders are worked without seams, creating a polished, professional finish
- Magic ring – used to begin the pattern with a centered starting point
- Stitch repeats and abbreviations – the pattern uses specialized notation such as "2F" (meaning crochet 1 F around each of the next 2 stitches) and increase instructions like "2B around next st"
Stitches and Pattern Elements
The Lind Potholders utilize post double crochet as the foundation stitch, which creates the raised, dimensional quality of the leaf pattern. The pattern is charted for visual reference, allowing crocheters to follow the leaf motif row by row. The seamless construction method eliminates the need for finishing seams, making assembly straightforward despite the pattern's advanced nature.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The recommended yarn is Krea de luxe organic cotton (100% cotton), which offers durability and heat resistance ideal for potholders. This yarn is available in 165 meters per 50-gram skein. Yarn requirements depend on size:
- Small size potholders: 2 skeins for one set
- Large size potholders: 4 skeins for one set
The pattern specifies sport weight yarn, which provides appropriate drape and stitch definition for the leaf pattern detail.
Hook Size and Gauge
A 3 mm crochet hook is recommended for this pattern. The gauge is 27 stitches measured over 10 centimeters (4 inches) when worked in the pattern stitch. Achieving proper gauge is essential for the finished measurements and the overall appearance of the leaf motif.
