Langer Jungenpullover mit Strukturmuster und Mütze – Pattern Summary (Schachenmayr Merino Extrafine 120)
This free downloadable PDF knitting pattern from Schachenmayr includes instructions for two projects: a long boys' textured pullover sweater and a matching hat (Mütze). Both are knitted in Schachenmayr Merino Extrafine 120 Big, a DK-weight merino wool yarn, making this an excellent coordinated set for children. The pattern is written in German and covers three sizes: 98/104, 116/122, and 128/134 (European children's sizing).
The Boys' Pullover (Langer Jungenpullover)
What Is Being Made
A long-length boys' pullover sweater featuring an all-over textured stitch pattern (Grundmuster) worked across the body and sleeves. The length and structured pattern give the sweater a classic, timeless look well suited to everyday wear. The sweater is constructed in separate pieces — back, front, and sleeves — which are then seamed together.
Techniques Used
- Flat knitting worked back and forth in rows on straight needles
- Casting on (Anschlagen) and binding off (Abketten), including shaped neckline bind-offs
- Neckline shaping: the front neckline is worked by binding off the central 19 stitches, then decreasing on each side every 2nd row — 1× 3 stitches and 1× 2 stitches per side
- Sleeve shaping (Ärmelschrägungen): increases worked on both sides to shape the sleeve cap
- Seaming to join front, back, and sleeves
- Reading a stitch chart (Zeichnung) to follow the textured pattern repeat
Stitches Used
- Grundmuster (main textured pattern): an 8-stitch repeat combining knit and purl stitches in a structured arrangement, creating a raised surface texture. On the back and front, the pattern is worked over 9 (10/11) repeats of the 8-stitch rapport. Note: after the 5th pattern row, 2 extra stitches are temporarily on the needle; the original stitch count is restored after the 11th pattern row.
- Rippenmuster (rib pattern): used for cuffs and borders, worked in the round on a double-pointed needle set
- Knit stitches (rechts) and purl stitches (links) throughout
- Edge/selvedge stitches (Randmaschen) on every row
Gauge (Maschenprobe)
- Main pattern, slightly stretched widthwise: 22 stitches and 24 rows = 10 × 10 cm
- Rib pattern, unstretched: 24 stitches and 24 rounds = 10 × 10 cm
Construction Details
- Back (Rückenteil): Cast on 81 (89/97) stitches. Work in textured pattern to a height of 44 (49/54) cm — after 105 (117/129) rows — then bind off all stitches.
- Front (Vorderteil): Worked identically to the back until the neckline shaping begins at 38 (43/48) cm height, after 91 (103/115) rows. At this point 83 (91/99) stitches are on the needle. After neckline shaping, 26 (30/34) shoulder stitches remain on each side and are bound off at the full height.
- Sleeves (Ärmel): Cast on 42 stitches and work in the main pattern over 5 full repeats of the 8-stitch rapport, with sleeve shaping increases on both sides
