What Is Being Made

The Log Hat is a knitted beanie designed to use up yarn scraps and leftover odds and ends from previous knitting projects. This practical hat design was inspired by the #fringeandfriendslogalong community on Instagram, making it an ideal solution for crafters looking to repurpose assorted yarn colors into a finished wearable piece. The finished hat stretches to fit most adult head sizes between 20 to 24 inches (50 to 55 centimeters).

Techniques and Construction

The Log Hat employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for intermediate-level crafters. The hat is constructed in the round using circular needles for the body, then transitions to double-pointed needles (DPNs) when decreasing for the crown shaping. This two-needle approach is a standard method for seamless hat construction that allows for even stitch distribution and smooth transitions as the circumference decreases toward the top.
