Product Description
About:
This Cowl is designed to be big, warm and snuggly. Matching the yarns is key in this project, using one variegated as colour 1, and one solid/semisolid as colour 2. Look for flecks of colour 2 through your variegated yarn. Make sure they are for the most part contrasting colours, so that the stripes pop. The decreasing through the neck adds to the drape. The eyelets and stripes add texture and pattern to this cowl design, making it pop.

Kindness Cowl Infinity Scarf Pattern by Rachy Knits
What is Being Made
The Kindness Cowl is a one-size infinity scarf or cowl designed to be big, warm, and snuggly. This downloadable knitting pattern from independent designer Rachel Kleynhans of Rachy Knits creates a versatile neckwear piece suitable for everyday wear. The cowl functions as both a fashion accessory and a practical layering piece for cooler weather.
Design Features and Construction
This intermediate-level knitting project incorporates several design elements that create visual interest and texture. The pattern features eyelets and stripes throughout the design, which add both decorative pattern and dimensional texture to the finished cowl. A key design detail is the decreasing through the neck area, which enhances the drape and ensures a comfortable, flattering fit around the shoulders and neck.
Color Work and Yarn Pairing
The Kindness Cowl uses a two-color yarn combination technique that is central to the pattern's visual appeal. The design calls for one variegated yarn as color 1 and one solid or semi-solid yarn as color 2. The pattern recommends selecting a variegated yarn that contains flecks of the solid color choice throughout, creating a cohesive color story. For maximum impact, the two yarns should provide strong contrast so that the stripe pattern truly pops and stands out visually.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
As an intermediate-level project, the Kindness Cowl employs several fundamental knitting techniques. The pattern utilizes eyelet stitches, which are decorative openwork elements created by yarn overs and decreases. Striping is achieved through alternating rows or sections of the two selected yarns. The decreasing technique is worked strategically through the neck area to shape the cowl and improve its drape and wearability.
Yarn and Materials
The Kindness Cowl is designed for DK weight yarn. The recommended fiber is 100% Corriedale, a durable and warm natural fiber. Designer Rachel Kleynhans used Honest DK by Union Fibre paired with Kindness in Tobacco DK by Dye Ha for the original pattern sample. Knitters will need appropriate needles for DK weight yarn to complete this project.
