Product Description
Keyhole Tank is a simple tank top I designed with a keyhole element at the back neck and a V-neck at the front. The construction is mostly top down but to avoid seaming at the shoulder, I start at the base of the V-neck going up to the shoulder and then continue knitting the back of the shoulder to reach the same length as the front part. After that only knitting in the round to the bottom of garment.
No seaming and no picking up stitches needed.
Keyhole tank was designed without bust or waist shaping but the ribbing at the sides and the bottom will act as the subtle shaping, this is depend solely on how tight or loose your tension while doing the ribbing through the back loop.
Gauge20 stitches and 32 rows over 10 cm (4”) square in stockinette stitch after blocking.
The pattern has been tested. Thank you and happy knitting.

What is Being Made
The Keyhole Tank is a sleeveless tank top featuring a distinctive keyhole cutout at the back neck paired with a V-neck opening at the front. This beginner-friendly knitting pattern creates a simple yet elegant garment designed for personal use and finished item sales.
Construction Method
The Keyhole Tank employs a mostly top-down construction approach with a unique technique to eliminate shoulder seaming. The pattern begins at the base of the front V-neck and works upward to the shoulder, then continues knitting the back shoulder to match the front length. Once the shoulder sections reach equal length, the remainder of the garment is worked in the round directly to the bottom edge. This streamlined construction requires no seaming and no picking up of stitches, making it an accessible project for knitters new to garment construction.
Shaping and Design Features
The Keyhole Tank is intentionally designed without bust or waist shaping. Instead, subtle shaping is achieved through ribbing placed at the sides and bottom of the garment. The amount of shaping depends entirely on the knitter's tension while working the ribbing through the back loop, allowing for customization of the fit based on individual gauge and preference.
Yarn and Needles
This pattern is suitable for DK weight and sport weight yarns, offering flexibility in yarn selection while maintaining the intended drape and fit of the finished garment. Appropriate needles for the chosen yarn weight should be used to achieve proper gauge.
Difficulty Level
Rated as a beginner pattern, the Keyhole Tank is an ideal introduction to top-down garment knitting, requiring only basic knitting skills and familiarity with fundamental stitches and techniques.
