Jellyfish Amigurumi Crochet Pattern by Loops and Love Crochet
What is Being Made
This pattern creates a sweet little jellyfish amigurumi toy, part of the Ocean Friends Amigurumi collection by Loops and Love Crochet. The jellyfish is a quick, beginner-friendly crochet project designed to be completed relatively quickly, making it ideal for crafters working between larger projects or seeking an immediately gratifying make. The finished toy features a distinctive jellyfish silhouette with a rounded head and dangling tentacles.
Construction Techniques
The jellyfish amigurumi is constructed using a two-piece head method. The head pieces are worked separately and then sewn together to create the main body of the jellyfish. Tentacles are added as a final step to complete the design. This modular approach allows crafters to manage the project in distinct phases, making it accessible for beginners while maintaining visual appeal.
Crochet Stitches Used
- Ch – chain stitch, the foundation stitch for starting crochet projects
- Sl St – slip stitch, used for joining rounds and creating seamless transitions
- SC – single crochet, the primary stitch for building amigurumi fabric
Materials and Tools
Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (aran weight) is used for this project. The pattern specifies approximately 80 yards of yarn. The designer used Red Heart Soft yarn in the Plummy colorway for their sample, though any worsted weight yarn in desired colors can be substituted.
Crochet Hook: A 3.5 mm crochet hook is recommended, though crafters can adjust hook size based on personal preference for amigurumi or to achieve desired finished dimensions—larger hooks create bigger jellyfish, while smaller hooks produce more delicate versions.
Additional Materials: The project requires 8 mm safety eyes for facial features, fiber-based stuffing for filling the amigurumi body, black embroidery thread or thin black yarn for optional mouth details, and a yarn needle for weaving in ends and attaching the head pieces and tentacles together. Bent yarn needles are noted as particularly effective for amigurumi assembly work.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as beginner-friendly, making it an excellent introduction to amigurumi crochet techniques. The straightforward construction method and limited stitch requirements ensure accessibility for newer crocheters while still producing a charming finished toy.
