Product Description
*My inspiration for the fluffy blue shawl were the magnificent projects of a dear friend who often combines the yarn with a thread of mohair. And while knitting the blue one, my two balls of gradient yarn have come to my mind … another inspiration.
Two yarn versions and two sizes: 220 x 63 cm / 86.6" x 24.8" and 200 x 61 cm / 78.7" x 24"
Pattern is available in English (page 1-5) and in German (page 6-10).
Inspiration Shawls by Iscula
Project Overview
The Inspiration collection features two beautifully designed knitted shawls created by independent designer Iscula. Both shawls showcase elegant top-down construction with delicate stitch patterns and decorative eyelets, offering knitters a beginner-friendly introduction to shawl design. These pieces are inspired by combining luxurious yarn blends, particularly incorporating mohair threads for added texture and dimension.
Blue Shawl Design
The blue version measures 220 x 63 cm (86.6" x 24.8") after blocking and combines multiple yarn types to create visual interest and depth. This shawl features delicate patterns on the right side with decorative borders and partial eyelets at the center, creating an elegant drape suitable for various occasions.
Materials for Blue Shawl:
- 800 m / 875 yds Zauberwiese Merino Seide in "Jeans meliert" (400 m per 100g; 50% merino wool, 50% silk)
- 470 m / 514 yds Lana Grossa Silkhair in colour 42 bright blue (70% mohair, 30% silk; 210 m per 25g)
- 211 m / 231 yds Lana Grossa Silkhair in colour 103 jeans blue (70% mohair, 30% silk)
Gradient Shawl Design
The gradient version measures 200 x 61 cm (78.7" x 24") after blocking. This shawl utilizes gradient yarn to create a color-shifting effect throughout the piece, employing the same top-down construction method with decorative stitch patterns and eyelets.
Construction Techniques
Both shawls are knit top down, a construction method that allows knitters to try on the piece as it grows and easily adjust the final size. This approach is particularly beginner-friendly as it provides flexibility in the finishing process.
Stitch Details
The shawls feature delicate patterns positioned on the right side with coordinating border designs. Decorative eyelets are strategically placed at the center of each shawl, adding visual interest and creating openwork sections that enhance the drape and elegance of the finished piece.
Yarn Weight and Fiber Content
These designs work with luxury yarn weights including 3-ply, 4-ply, DK, and lace weights. The combination of merino wool and silk creates a soft, lustrous fabric, while the addition of mohair yarn adds a fluffy, textured quality that distinguishes these shawls. The mohair-silk blend in the contrast colors provides both visual and tactile dimension to the finished garments.
Skill Level
Rated as beginner difficulty, these patterns are accessible to knitters new to shawl construction while offering enough visual sophistication to appeal to more experienced crafters seeking elegant, wearable designs.
