Product Description
Here’s my take on the classic hexagon cardigan pattern!
I’ve made it as easy as possible, with minimal ends and seams, plus by adding the sleeves directly onto each hexagon you don’t have to figure out how the hexagon turns into a cardigan - the sleeves do it for you.
It is designed as a loose-fitting cardi for little ones, and for spring/summer, try using a cotton acrylic blend or bamboo yarn!

Crochet Techniques and Construction
This cardigan employs a distinctive hexagon-based construction technique that sets it apart from traditional cardigan patterns. The pattern incorporates stitch markers to help track progress through the geometric shaping, and a yarn needle is used for finishing and weaving in ends.
Stitches Used
The Impossible Hexagon Cardigan uses essential crochet stitches in US terminology:
- Chain (ch) — the foundation stitch for starting rows and creating openings
- Single Crochet (sc) — a short, tight stitch for structure and detail work
- Standing Single Crochet — a technique for beginning new rows without a turning chain
- Double Crochet (dc) — the primary stitch used throughout the cardigan for fabric body and drape
- Double Crochet Three Together (dc3tog) — a decrease stitch for shaping the hexagon sections
- Slip Stitch (slst) — used to join rounds and connect sections seamlessly
Materials and Tools
The Impossible Hexagon Cardigan requires 2 balls of 100g DK weight yarn, with the pattern tested using Stylecraft Wondersoft DK. A 4mm crochet hook is used to achieve the specified tension. Additional materials include 2 stitch markers for tracking pattern sections, a yarn needle for seaming and finishing, and scissors for cutting yarn. The pattern specifies a tension of 10 centimeters equaling 10 rows of double crochet stitches, ensuring proper fit for the toddler sizing.

Rated as a beginner-level project, the Impossible Hexagon Cardigan is designed to be accessible to newer crocheters while introducing geometric construction concepts.
