Hilton Head Pullover – Sweater Knitting Pattern for Women in Tahki Yarns Coronado
The Hilton Head Pullover is a women's pullover sweater knitting pattern designed by Andi Javori for Tahki Yarns. This intermediate-level pattern is worked flat in pieces and seamed together, featuring a relaxed, generously sized silhouette with 10–12 inches of positive ease. The finished design showcases a classic two-color stripe motif worked in a delicate lace pattern, making it an elegant yet approachable project for knitters who are comfortable moving beyond the basics.
What Is Being Made
This downloadable PDF pattern produces a women's pullover sweater available in five sizes: Small, Medium, Large, XL, and 2XL. The finished bust measurements range from 44 inches (Small) to 61½ inches (2XL), and the length ranges from 21½ inches (Small) to 25½ inches (2XL). The generous positive ease gives the Hilton Head Pullover a breezy, relaxed fit that is well suited to warm-weather or transitional dressing — a natural complement to the cotton-silk yarn used throughout.
Techniques Used
- Worked flat: The garment pieces are knitted back and forth in rows on straight or circular needles, rather than in the round, allowing the knitter to work each panel — front, back, and sleeves — as separate flat pieces.
- Seamed construction: Once all pieces are complete, they are joined using seaming techniques, creating a structured, tailored finish. Seamed sweaters often have excellent shape retention and a polished, garment-like drape.
- Stripes: Two colors are alternated throughout the body of the pullover — color #01 white (A) and color #19 navy (B) — producing a crisp, nautical stripe effect that is a hallmark of the Hilton Head aesthetic.
- Lace pattern: The fabric is structured around a lace stitch pattern, which creates an open, airy texture. The gauge for this pattern is set at 19 stitches and 28 rows over 4 inches in the Lace pattern, so achieving gauge in the lace pattern specifically is essential for proper fit.
- Neckband finishing: A circular needle is used to pick up and work the neckband, giving the collar a neat, professional finish.
Stitches Used
- Lace pattern stitches: The primary fabric stitch is a lace pattern, which typically involves yarn-overs paired with decreases to create decorative eyelets and an open, lightweight texture.
- K2tog (Knit 2 Together): A right-leaning decrease worked through the front loops, used as part of the lace pattern and shaping throughout the garment.
- M1L / M1 (Make 1 Left): A left-leaning increase used during garment shaping, such as sleeve increases, to add stitches seamlessly within the fabric.
- Standard knit and purl stitches form the foundation of the flat construction and any ribbing or border sections.
