Product Description

Henry is a huggable knitted bunny with big feet. Knitted mostly in stockinette, this rabbit is worked in acrylic yarn so it is easier to keep clean after play. This pattern incorporates short rows to shape the rabbit’s feet. Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, Henry is knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round). For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, and seaming to finish.

Henry Rabbit Knitted Toy by Amanda Berry

What is Being Made

Henry Rabbit is a huggable knitted bunny toy designed by Amanda Berry. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a stuffed rabbit figure with distinctive big feet, making it an ideal handmade toy for craft enthusiasts looking to create a soft, cuddly companion. The finished piece is suitable for gift-giving or personal collection.

Knitting Techniques Used

The Henry Rabbit pattern employs stockinette stitch as the primary construction technique, creating a smooth, classic fabric base for the toy. The pattern involves working various components separately before assembly, requiring skills in shaping through increases and decreases to form the rabbit's body, head, ears, and distinctive large feet. Intermediate knitters will find this project manageable, as it builds foundational toy-making techniques while maintaining straightforward stitch work.

Stitches and Construction Methods

The pattern utilizes fundamental knitting stitches appropriate for toy construction. Seaming techniques are essential, as the knitted pieces must be joined together using a darning or tapestry needle. The toy is stuffed with fiberfill after assembly, requiring careful seaming to create secure, neat joints. Faux button joints add articulation and visual interest to the finished rabbit.

Materials Required

  • Yarn: 100% acrylic DK yarn (double knitting, light worsted weight, 8 ply) in a minimum 100g skein, primarily in Grey with additional White yarn for details. The pattern recommends Hayfield Bonus DK or similar acrylic DK yarn.
  • Needles: A pair of 3.5mm (US 4) single-pointed needles for the main knitting work
  • Notions and Finishing: A stitch holder, darning or tapestry needle for seaming, 200g bag of toy filling, four 10mm buttons for faux button joints, two 6mm black buttons for eyes, scraps of white felt, and sewing needle with thread for attaching facial features
