Product Description
The stitch pattern looks like baby cables but is actually much simpler and quicker to work. This headband makes an ideal gift because of the soft, stretchy fit. Two versions of the pattern are given - flat and in the round.
Intermediate/advanced knitters can work in the round for a seamless headband. Novices who wish to try a fun stitch pattern without the need to work in the round can choose to work it flat with a short seam hidden at the back.
*With two balls of yarn, you can make this headband and the matching Helios Mitts for a lovely gift - or to keep for yourself! If you wish to do this and are making size L mitts, take care that your tension is correct because there will only be a few grams of yarn leftover. Buy them together in Helios Knits ebook
Size One size to fit 51-61cm (20-24") head. Very stretchy.

Helios Headband by Louise Zass-Bangham
What is Being Made
The Helios Headband is a stylish, stretchy knitted headband designed to fit head circumferences of 51-61cm (20"-24"). Measuring 9cm x 43cm when unstretched, this accessory provides a comfortable, cosy layer for milder weather while maintaining an elegant appearance suitable for various color choices and occasions.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
This intermediate-level knitting project features two construction options to suit different preferences. The primary method involves knitting in the round using circular needles, which creates a seamless tubular fabric. Alternatively, knitters can choose to work flat and sew a short seam, providing flexibility for those who prefer traditional flat knitting methods. The in-the-round technique can be executed using either a 40cm circular needle or the magic loop method with an 80cm cable.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The Helios Headband is constructed using eyelet-rib stitch, a decorative pattern that combines eyelets with ribbing. Louise Zass-Bangham notes that this stitch pattern achieves a complex, intricate appearance while remaining much simpler and quicker to work than mini-cables. The fabric created by eyelet-rib is described as beautifully soft and stretchy, making it forgiving for fit and ideal as a gift since it will accommodate various head sizes comfortably.
Materials and Tools
- Yarn: MillaMia Naturally Soft Merino, 125m per 50g ball, requiring 1 ball in your chosen color. Available colors include Scarlet, grass green, fawn, or claret
