Yarn used: Artesano British Wool, DK Blue Faced Blend in Beryl 5 x 110m.
This yarn is quite ‘fluffy’ and is better knit slightly loose in this pattern.
For a smoother yarn 3.75-4mm needles may be suitable. This would slightly reduce the yardage and size.
4.5mm needles Yarn needle. Tension measured across whole blanket. The garter stitch section has a larger tension to the main sections, so measure your tension across the main pattern.

Harvey's Blanket by Auroraknit
What is Being Made
Harvey's Blanket is a knitted throw blanket designed by independent designer Auroraknit. This project creates a cozy, finished blanket available in nine different size options, ranging from 41x59 cm to 119x164 cm, making it suitable for various spaces from small lap throws to large bed covers. The blanket is an ideal project for knitters seeking a straightforward, rewarding make that produces a substantial finished piece.
Craft and Primary Technique
This is a knitting project designed for beginner-level knitters. The blanket employs fundamental knitting techniques that build confidence while creating an impressive finished garment. The pattern incorporates both garter stitch and stockinette stitch sections, with strategic increases and decreases to shape the blanket. The designer notes that tension varies between the garter stitch sections and main pattern sections, which is why increase and decrease rows are incorporated into the pattern structure.
Stitches and Stitch Techniques Used
- Garter stitch – creates a textured, reversible fabric that forms part of the blanket's structure
- Stockinette stitch – the primary stitch used in the main sections of the blanket
- Yarn overs (yrn/yo) – decorative increases that add lace-like details
- Knit two together (K2tog) – a right-leaning decrease
- Knit two together through back loop (K2togtbl) – a left-leaning decrease
- Purl stitches (P) – used in combination with knit stitches for texture and stitch definition
- Slip marker (SM) – used to track pattern sections throughout the blanket
Materials: Yarn and Needles
Harvey's Blanket is worked in DK weight yarn, a versatile medium weight that knits at a comfortable pace while creating a fabric with good drape and warmth. The pattern specifies yardage requirements across nine sizes: 300m, 420m, 600m, 800m, 1100m, 1400m, 1750m, 2000m, and 2400m respectively, allowing knitters to select the size appropriate for their yarn quantity.
The sample shown was knitted using Artesano British Wool DK Blue Faced Blend in the colorway Beryl, worked at five balls of 110m each. This particular yarn is described as quite fluffy in texture. The pattern recommends using 4.5mm needles for this yarn. However, the designer notes that for smoother DK weight yarns, 3.75-4mm needles may be more suitable, which would slightly reduce the overall yardage requirements and finished size.
Knitters will also need a yarn needle for weaving in ends upon completion. The pattern specifies a tension of 20 stitches and 30 rows to 10cm after blocking, measured across the whole blanket. This tension measurement accounts for the different gauges between garter stitch and main pattern sections.
Pattern Format
Harvey's Blanket is available as a downloadable PDF pattern, making it convenient for digital access and printing. The pattern includes full abbreviations for all stitches and techniques used, supporting knitters in following the instructions clearly.
