Product Description
Free your inner dryad with the lacy leaf design of this elegant tank. With cascading leaves wrapping around the sides and a beautifully reversible fit, your summer wardrobe is perfectly suited for any forest dream escape.
The tank is completely reversible, but for simplicity, we’ve indicated the lacy side as the back and the Stockinette stitch side as the front. It is worked in the round from the bottom up. After dividing for the armholes, the front and back are worked separately in rows. Waist and bust shaping are achieved by changing needle size several times.
Front shoulder shaping is fully fashioned with single, double, and triple cabled decreases. The back shoulders are worked straight with deeper armholes than the front, so the shoulder seams fall toward the front, enhancing the reversibility.
The lace pattern is proportional to the finished measurements, meaning that for each size, there’s a different number of stitches and rows in the pattern repeat.
Grotto Nymph Tank Top by Holli Yeoh
What is Being Made
The Grotto Nymph is an elegant knitted tank top featuring a lacy leaf motif design. This advanced-level knitting project showcases cascading leaves that wrap around the sides of the garment, creating a nature-inspired aesthetic perfect for summer wear. The design offers a beautifully reversible fit, allowing the wearer to style the tank from either side. With finished bust measurements ranging from 31 ½ inches to 61 ½ inches and multiple size options, this tank accommodates a wide range of body types and preferences.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
This advanced knitting project employs sophisticated lace techniques to create the signature leaf pattern elements. The cascading leaf design requires careful attention to yarn overs, decreases, and stitch manipulation to achieve the delicate openwork effect. The reversible construction adds complexity to the design, as both sides of the garment must be considered during pattern development and execution. Knitters working on this project will benefit from experience with lace knitting, as the pattern demands precision and an understanding of how stitch sequences create intentional design elements.
Stitches and Stitch Work
The Grotto Nymph utilizes lace stitching techniques central to its visual appeal. The leaf motifs are created through combinations of yarn overs and strategic decreases that form openwork patterns. These lace elements are integrated throughout the tank's construction, particularly along the sides where the cascading leaves create visual interest and movement. The reversible nature of the design suggests thoughtful stitch selection that maintains aesthetic appeal from both directions of wear.
Yarn and Materials
This project calls for fingering weight yarn, with a total yardage requirement ranging from 860 yards for the smallest size to 1,640 yards for the largest size. The pattern is shown in SweetGeorgia Yarns Bulletproof Sock, a premium blend composed of 50% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon, 15% Kid Mohair, and 15% Silk. This particular yarn offers 437 yards per 3.5 ounce skein and is displayed in the Jasmine colorway. Depending on the chosen size, knitters will need between 2 and 4 skeins to complete the project. The yarn blend provides durability through nylon content while delivering softness and a subtle sheen from the mohair and silk components, making it well-suited for a delicate lace tank.
Finished Measurements and Sizing
The Grotto Nymph is available in 11 sizes with the following specifications:

Skill Level and Project Considerations
Classified as an advanced knitting project, the Grotto Nymph is designed for experienced knitters with solid foundational skills. The lace techniques, reversible construction, and intricate leaf patterning require comfort with reading complex stitch patterns, managing yarn overs and decreases, and maintaining consistent tension throughout the work. Knitters new to lace or advanced techniques may find this project challenging but rewarding as a skill-building endeavor.
