Product Description
This pattern was created after designing my granny in a granny square pattern in 2019. This pattern is based on my own grampy, Frederick. You can customise yours for grandparent gifts, grandchildren gifts or a gift for yourself!
Please keep in mind that this is not a toy, please keep small parts out of reach of young children.
Gramps Bauble Crochet Pattern by Natalie Beard
What Is Being Made
The Gramps bauble pattern creates festive decorative ornaments designed to embellish Christmas trees or seasonal displays. Each finished bauble measures approximately 8.5cm across and features charming character faces. This downloadable PDF pattern allows crafters to produce multiple variations of baubles using a single design, including a double granny face bauble and a granny face with decorative side options.
Craft and Construction Method
This is a crochet project suitable for intermediate-level makers. The pattern uses a two-piece construction technique, where each bauble is crocheted in two separate halves and then sewn together to create a complete sphere. This modular approach allows for flexibility in finishing options and makes assembly straightforward for experienced crocheters.
Crochet Stitches and Techniques
While specific stitch-by-stitch details are not fully outlined in the provided content, the pattern employs granny-based motifs as indicated by the bauble design names. The construction involves working in rounds to build the spherical shape, with tension set at 16 stitches to 10cm. The pattern is written in UK crochet terminology, which is important for crafters to note when following instructions.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The pattern calls for Paintbox Cotton Aran yarn in a vibrant palette of 11 colors:
- Lipstick Pink (652)
- Blood Orange (620)
- Buttercup Yellow (623)
- Grass Green (630)
- Rose Red (614)
- Pansy Purple (648)
- Washed Teal (633)
- Lime Green (629)
- Pale Lilac (646)
- Slate Grey (606) for hair detail
- Pure Black (602)
For skin tones, crafters can choose from Vanilla Cream (608), Soft Fudge (610), Coffee Bean (611), or Light Caramel (609). The Lime Green (629) is used again for the bow tie accent.
Tools and Notions Required
Essential equipment includes a 3.5mm crochet hook and a yarn needle for assembly and finishing. For the bauble base, crafters can use 8cm polystyrene balls, existing old baubles, or fibre filling depending on preference and desired weight. Additional notions include scissors, safety eyes (or the option to embroider eyes by hand), and ribbon or yarn for creating hanging loops to attach the finished baubles to tree branches.
Pattern Format and Accessibility
This is a downloadable PDF pattern designed by independent designer Natalie Beard, available for digital purchase and immediate access. The pattern provides clear instructions for intermediate crocheters and offers creative flexibility with multiple bauble variations achievable from a single pattern document.
