Product Description
This beginner friendly scarf pattern features the beautiful granny stitch crochet pattern. Use your favorite worsted weight yarn! Available in 4 sizes - toddler, child, adult small and adult large - and there is a video tutorial. You'll need 108 (196, 298, 425) yards in total of worsted weight #4 yarn – that’s 36 (66, 100, 142) yards of each color if 3 is desired - I used Red Heart Super Saver in Light Sage, Tea Leaf and Paddy Green, H8/5mm Crochet Hook, Tapestry Needle and Soft Tape Measure (if you want to check gauge or measure as you go). For reference, the adult small size took me just under 3 hours. Gauge is not essential, and checked in pattern. It uses US single crochet (SC) and double crochet (DC).

What Is Being Made
The Grace Tinley Scarf is a versatile crochet scarf available in four sizes: Toddler (4 1/4" x 30 1/4"), Child (5 3/8" x 45 1/4"), Adult Small (6" x 60 1/4"), and a larger unspecified size. This downloadable crochet pattern is designed as a beginner-friendly project that produces a classic, timeless accessory suitable for various ages and occasions.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Grace Tinley Scarf features the granny stitch pattern, a beautiful and classic crochet technique that has remained a staple in the craft for generations. The granny stitch is known for its distinctive open, lacy appearance created through clusters of double crochet stitches separated by chain spaces. This traditional stitch pattern is ideal for beginners, as it relies on fundamental crochet techniques while producing visually striking results. The pattern is constructed using a block-based approach, allowing crafters to work in manageable sections.
Materials and Tools Required
The Grace Tinley Scarf calls for the following materials:
- Yarn: 108 to 425 yards total of Worsted Weight #4 yarn, depending on the chosen size. The designer used Red Heart Super Saver in Light Sage, Tea Leaf, and Paddy Green, with 36 to 142 yards of each color per block. Any worsted weight yarn from your stash may be substituted to match your preferences.
- Crochet Hook: H8/5mm crochet hook
- Additional Tools: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and optional soft tape measure for checking gauge and measuring progress
Yarn Weight and Customization Options
While the pattern is designed for Worsted Weight #4 yarn, crafters have flexibility in their material choices. The designer notes that any worsted weight yarn works well for this project. For those seeking a different aesthetic, chunky weight #5 yarn can be substituted to create an oversized, cozier version of the scarf. Gauge checking is optional; if finished dimensions are not critical to your project, you can begin crocheting without extensive gauge swatching.
Difficulty Level and Time Investment
Rated as a beginner-level project, the Grace Tinley Scarf is accessible to new crocheters while remaining engaging for experienced makers. The adult small size requires approximately 3 hours of active crocheting time, making it a relatively quick project that can be completed in a single crafting session or across a few evenings.
