Product Description
hBranta canadensis is the Canada Goose and the topic and inspiration of much of my work. Every year, we’re fascinated by the spring and fall migrations, and many of them nest and take care of their young in the numerous ponds on our property. They are industrious, excellent parents, and provide hours of entertainment for us as we go on our daily walks. Enjoy creating Canada Goose Wings and Feet in your representative Canada Geese meandering through the pansies and tulip border, and sunning themselves in the Meadow. Original borders round off the edges and give textural interest balancing the wing blocks and pansy stitch flowers.

Goose Meadow Afghan Blanket Throw
What Is Being Made
The Goose Meadow Afghan Blanket Throw is a crochet blanket designed by Margaret MacInnis, inspired by Canada Geese (Branta canadensis) and the natural beauty of meadow landscapes. This throw features textural representations of Canada Geese with detailed wings and feet, set against a scenic background of pansies, tulips, and a sunlit meadow. The design celebrates the spring and fall migrations and nesting behaviors of Canada Geese, making it both a functional blanket and a nature-inspired decorative piece.
Craft and Techniques
This project is created using crochet techniques at an intermediate skill level. The pattern employs textural stitching methods to create dimensional representations of goose wings and feet, allowing crafters to develop their ability to work with shaping and detail work. The design incorporates scenic elements including floral borders and meadow backgrounds, requiring intermediate-level shaping and color work capabilities.
Stitches and Construction
While specific stitch names are not detailed in the pattern excerpt provided, the project uses various crochet stitches to achieve textural effects for the geese and landscape elements. The pattern is written in US Terms with metric conversions provided, making it accessible to international crocheters. A separate tutorial download is available on the pattern page to guide crafters through the construction techniques.
Materials and Yarn
The Goose Meadow Afghan can be worked in multiple yarn weights to suit different preferences:
- Stylecraft Special DK: Approximately 55 inches (1.4 meters) square finished size
- Stylecraft Special Aran: Approximately 65–71 inches (1.65–1.8 meters) square finished size
Yarn packs are available from Wool Warehouse, pre-selected to contain all necessary colors and quantities for completing the project. The choice of yarn weight allows crafters to customize the final blanket dimensions, with DK weight producing a more delicate throw and Aran weight creating a larger, more substantial blanket.
