Product Description
This dress is a seamless knit, worked from the top down on circular needles. It is a fun knit construction and option wise which has been graded as suitable for the Intermediate knitter, worked with a simple slip stitch pattern. The dress can be knitted in 2 colours, 4 colours, or as many colours as you wish to add!! A great little stash buster that knits up quickly, and as your baby grows, this will grow from a dress to a tunic. I hope you enjoy knitting this as much as I did designing this fun little knit.
Freesia Dress P199 by OGE Knitwear Designs
What is Being Made
The Freesia Dress is a knitted garment designed for infants and young children, available in seven sizes ranging from 3 months to 6 years old. This downloadable knitting pattern from independent designer OGE Knitwear Designs produces a finished dress with actual chest measurements ranging from 45.5 cm (18¼ inches) for the smallest size up to larger dimensions for the 6-year-old size. The dress is constructed using sport weight yarn in a two-color design incorporating both main color (MC) and contrasting color (CC2) elements.
Yarn and Materials
The Freesia Dress pattern calls for sport weight yarn, a lightweight yarn category ideal for delicate children's garments. The pattern provides specific yardage requirements for each of the seven sizes:
- Size A (3 months): 40g / 100m / 110 yards main color, 20g / 50m / 55 yards contrast color
- Size B (6 months): 60g / 150m / 165 yards main color, 20g / 50m / 55 yards contrast color
- Size C (12 months): 70g / 175m / 190 yards main color, 30g / 75m / 80 yards contrast color
- Size D (18 months): 55g / 140m / 150 yards main color, 35g / 90m / 95 yards contrast color
- Size E (2 years): 40g / 100m / 110 yards main color, 40g / 100m / 110 yards contrast color
- Size F (4 years): 60g / 150m / 165 yards main color
- Size G (6 years): 70g / 175m / 190 yards main color
Suitable yarn options for this project include Milla Mia Naturally Soft Merino (125m / 136 yards per 50g ball), Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino (125m / 136 yards per 50g ball), and Ella Rae Cashmerino Sport (125m / 136 yards per 50g ball). These premium fiber choices provide softness and comfort appropriate for delicate infant and children's wear.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
The Freesia Dress is classified as an intermediate difficulty knitting project, indicating it requires foundational knitting knowledge and familiarity with standard techniques. The garment employs a two-color knitting approach, utilizing both a main color and contrasting color throughout the design. This color work technique adds visual interest and design definition to the finished piece while maintaining the lightweight aesthetic suitable for children's clothing.
The pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF format, allowing knitters to access detailed instructions, stitch diagrams, and sizing information digitally. The intermediate skill level suggests the pattern incorporates standard knitting stitches and shaping techniques appropriate for creating a well-fitted dress silhouette across multiple size ranges.
