Flowers By The Fence Blanket
What Is Being Made
The Flowers By The Fence Blanket is a rustic country cottage style knitted blanket designed by Loose Loop Patterns. This project features a beautiful combination of floral lace, nupps, and cable motifs inspired by colorful summer blossoms. The blanket is knitted as one complete piece from bottom up, creating a visually stunning and extremely warm throw suitable for snuggling.
Techniques Used
This advanced knitting project employs multiple sophisticated techniques to achieve its textured, dimensional appearance. The blanket combines floral lace work with nupps (decorative bobble-like stitches that create raised floral elements) and cable motifs throughout the design. These more advanced stitches are strategically paired with Seed Stitch (also called Moss Stitch) borders, which provide visual contrast and frame the intricate central design elements. The interplay between complex textured stitches and simple seed stitch creates a balanced, visually striking finished piece.
Stitches Used
- Floral Lace Stitches – Creates openwork floral patterns throughout the blanket
- Nupps – Decorative raised stitches that form dimensional flower-like details
- Cable Stitches – Twisted stitches creating rope-like textured motifs
- Seed Stitch (Moss Stitch) – Simple alternating knit and purl stitches used for borders and contrast
Materials
The Flowers By The Fence Blanket is knitted using Aran weight yarn, specifically 31 balls of 50g (totaling 2170 meters or 2387 yards) in Drops Alaska 5458, a grey uni color shade. The project requires 8.00 mm circular needles for working the blanket in one continuous piece.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as Advanced, making it suitable for experienced knitters who are comfortable working with complex lace, nupps, cables, and managing a large project knitted in one piece.
