Product Description

The Fletching Sweater is named due to the detailing along the bottom hem reminding me of arrow fletchings. I had actually designed this pattern to have vine detailing, but they turned out more angular and reminded me more of fletchings! It has a fold over turtle-neck and is worked top down raglan style. The sleeves and bottom edge have a 1x1 ribbed hem, and the bottom hem features a colour worked design. The sweater is designed to fall to a mid-long crop level. The pattern will have options for adding extra length if desired. This is a #sizeinclusive pattern

Sizes offered: 30 (33.3, 36.6, 40) {43.3, 46.6, 50} (53.3, 56.5, 60) {63.3, 66.6, 70}These sizes reflect the FINISHED bust measurement (includes 1-6" positive ease)

Fletching Sweater by Claire Jackson

What is Being Made

The Fletching Sweater is an original knitted design by Claire Jackson of Perfectly Knotted. This sweater features distinctive angular detailing along the bottom hem that resembles arrow fletchings, inspired by the designer's initial vine motif concept. The garment includes a fold-over turtleneck and is designed to fall at a mid-long crop level, with options available for adding extra length to customize the finished piece.

Construction and Techniques

The Fletching Sweater is constructed using a top-down raglan style, a popular technique in modern knitwear design that allows for seamless shaping and easy fitting adjustments. This method involves beginning at the neckline and working downward, with raglan increases creating the armhole shaping as you progress toward the body and sleeves. The top-down approach provides flexibility for customizing length and ensures proper fit before completing the garment.

The sweater features colour-worked design at the bottom hem, incorporating multiple yarn colors to create the fletching-inspired pattern. This technique adds visual interest and textural depth to the finished piece.

Stitches Used

  • 1x1 Ribbed Hem: Applied to both the sleeves and bottom edge, this classic ribbed stitch creates elasticity and a finished, professional appearance. The alternating knit and purl stitches provide structure and help the garment maintain its shape during wear and washing.
  • Colour-Worked Design: The fletching detailing at the bottom hem employs colour work techniques to create the angular, arrow-fletching-inspired motif.

Materials and Specifications

The Fletching Sweater is designed for chunky weight yarn, which creates a warm, substantial fabric with faster knitting progress compared to lighter yarn weights. The pattern is classified as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle techniques such as top-down raglan construction and colour-worked patterning.

The pattern is available as a downloadable PDF format, offering convenient access for digital reference while knitting. Size options range from 30 inches to 70 inches finished bust measurement, with the sweater designed for 1–5 inches of positive ease to ensure comfortable wear. Knitters should measure their actual bust size and select the appropriate finished size based on their desired fit and ease preference.
