Product Description
‘Fisherman’s Winter’ is my take on the classic fisherman rib beanie hat. It has incredible stretch and is seamed at the crown so it fits to the top of the head with no gather. The pattern includes instructions for 3 yarn weights, each in 4 sizes.
This pattern uses mainly slip stitches and chains. You will need to work increases, decreases, keep careful count of your stitches and sew together the crown and side seam to finish the hat.
The pattern includes a photo guide, joining schematic and a link to a left and right video tutorial which takes you through some of the potentially challenging areas of the pattern.
The PDF is written out separately for 3 yarn weights, each requiring a different amount of yarn depending on size made. Details of recommended hook size and meterage by yarn weight and size are given in the pattern.
The adult 4ply version of this patter is available for free on the dora does website.

Fisherman's Winter Ribbed Beanie Hat by Dora Does
What Is Being Made
The Fisherman's Winter is a classic ribbed beanie hat designed by independent designer Dora Does. This crochet pattern creates a fitted winter beanie featuring a distinctive fisherman rib texture. The hat is constructed with a seamed crown, allowing it to fit snugly to the top of the head without gathering or bunching. The design offers exceptional stretch, making it comfortable and wearable for extended periods.
Pattern Coverage and Sizing
This downloadable crochet pattern provides comprehensive instructions for three different yarn weights, with each yarn weight option available in four different sizes. This flexibility allows crocheters to customize the finished beanie to their preferred fit and desired yarn type, whether working with lighter or heavier yarn options.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
The Fisherman's Winter employs the fisherman rib stitch as its primary textural element. This technique is known for creating a deeply textured, elastic fabric with significant stretch properties. The pattern uses a seamed construction method at the crown rather than gathering stitches, resulting in a more polished and professional finish. This construction approach ensures the hat maintains its shape and sits properly on the wearer's head.
Yarn and Materials
The pattern accommodates multiple yarn weights to suit different preferences and seasonal needs. Crocheters can work with 4-ply, DK (Double Knit), or Aran weight yarns, depending on their chosen size option. The appropriate crochet hook size will vary based on the selected yarn weight, as specified in the pattern instructions.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with some experience beyond basic stitches. The fisherman rib stitch and seaming technique require intermediate-level skills and familiarity with working in the round and finishing techniques.
