Product Description

Filijokus has stripes in at least two directions, a generous neckline, some waist and bust shaping, and even a little coin pocket.

Like all Ziggurats, everything is knitted in one go, with only the collar and pocket lining worked last.

There is no seaming, and only a few ends to weave in when you're done.

The set-in sleeves are knitted in the round from cap to cuff.

The collar and cuffs feature horizontal stripes and are knitted sideways.

The recommended yarn, Semilla DK, produces a supple, slightly lighter than normal DK-weight fabric for an in-between seasons sweater or for cool summer evenings.

Filijokus Top-Down Pullover by Åsa Tricosa

What Is Being Made

Filijokus is a seamless top-down pullover sweater designed by Åsa Tricosa. This knitted garment features distinctive multi-directional striping, subtle waist and bust shaping, and a functional coin pocket detail. The pullover is constructed as a single continuous piece with minimal finishing work, making it an efficient and satisfying knitting project.

Construction Method

The Filijokus pullover is knitted entirely in one continuous piece from the top down, eliminating the need for seaming. The body and sleeves are worked together using a seamless construction technique. The set-in sleeves are knitted in the round from the cap down to the cuff, ensuring a professional fit without any seams. The collar and pocket lining are the only components worked separately and added after the main body is complete. This construction approach means minimal ends to weave in when the project is finished.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

The design showcases stripes worked in at least two directions, creating visual interest and demonstrating intermediate-level colorwork skills. The sweater incorporates shaping techniques for the waist and bust, allowing for a fitted silhouette. The set-in sleeve construction requires understanding of cap shaping and sleeve cap decreases. Circular knitting in the round is used throughout most of the project, which is a fundamental technique for seamless garment construction.

Sizing and Fit

Filijokus is available in ten sizes ranging from 81 cm (32 inches) to 127 cm (50 inches) in finished bust circumference, accommodating a wide range of body sizes from extra small through extra large.

Yarn and Materials

The pattern calls for BC Garn Semilla DK yarn, a DK weight (8-ply) wool yarn with a yardage of 161 meters (176 yards) per 50-gram skein. The design uses two colors: a main color in Yellow (shade 107) and a contrasting color in Grey (shade 101). Yardage requirements vary by size, with the main color requiring between 620 and 960 meters (670 to 1,050 yards) depending on the finished size, and the contrasting color requiring between 570 and 880 meters (620 to 970 yards). Alternative DK weight yarns that knit to the specified gauge may be substituted for the recommended yarn.

Tools Required

Knitters will need 4 mm (US 6) circular needles to complete this project, along with standard notions for finishing.

Skill Level

Filijokus is rated as an intermediate difficulty pattern, suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle colorwork, shaping, and seamless garment construction techniques.
