Product Description
I wrote this pattern because I was in love with the Paintbox Chunky Pot yarns. I wanted to make something fun and squishy, which would work using any of the colourways. This pattern uses just 1 chunky pot, and some solid chunky yarn. You end up with a delightfully squishy, snuggly blanket with adorable tassels. The pattern includes all of the details you'll need to make this blanket, and includes pictures to help too.
Fiesta Blanket by RocketgirlCrochet
What is Being Made
The Fiesta Blanket is a colorful crochet throw blanket designed by RocketgirlCrochet. This beginner-friendly project combines multicolored and solid-colored chunky yarns to create a festive, textured blanket perfect for adding warmth and visual interest to any space. The blanket features decorative tassels that enhance its playful, celebratory aesthetic.
Crochet Techniques Used
This pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for beginners while creating professional-looking results. The blanket is constructed using basic row-by-row construction with consistent stitch patterns throughout. The design incorporates treble crochet stitches as the primary stitch, which creates an open, airy fabric that works beautifully with chunky yarn. The pattern also uses treble crochet three together (TR3TOG), a decrease technique that adds subtle texture and shaping to the blanket. Tassels are hand-made using a piece of card as a tassel-making tool, adding a decorative finishing touch that complements the blanket's festive theme.
Stitches Used
- Chain (CH): Used to create the foundation and turning chains between rows
- Treble Crochet (TR): The primary stitch throughout the blanket (equivalent to US Double Crochet)
- Treble Crochet Three Together (TR3TOG): A decrease stitch that creates texture and visual interest
Pattern Flexibility and Sizing
The Fiesta Blanket pattern is designed with flexibility in mind. The blanket can be worked in multiples of 10+1 stitches (plus 3 turning chain) to create larger or smaller versions depending on your preferences and available yarn. This scalability makes it easy to customize the finished size. The pattern is written in UK crochet terminology with American equivalents provided for reference, ensuring accessibility to crocheters using either convention.
Materials and Yarn Requirements
This blanket is designed to use approximately one 272-meter skein of Paintbox Chunky Pot multicolored yarn (Yarn A), combined with 4 balls of Paintbox Simply Chunky coordinating solid-color yarn (Yarn B, totaling 544 meters at 136 meters per ball). The chunky yarn weight creates a quick, satisfying project that works up rapidly while producing a substantial, cozy finished blanket. You will also need a 4.5mm crochet hook, scissors, a needle for weaving in ends, and a piece of card for constructing the decorative tassels. The pattern recommends testing gauge before beginning to ensure you have sufficient yarn to complete the project, though you can substitute either yarn type for the tassels if needed.
Skill Level
Rated as a beginner project, the Fiesta Blanket is ideal for crocheters new to the craft or those looking for a straightforward, rewarding make. The simple stitch pattern and clear instructions make it accessible while still producing impressive, professional-looking results.
