Product Description
Festive Season Socks are knitted cuff down and have deliberately been designed to offer a relaxing sock to knit with a few extra techniques to keep your interest. At the top of the sock, there is a Latvian braid with corrugated rib. For the heel flap, I have created an extended Eye of Partridge pattern and the toe decreases create a lovely rounded toe.
Yarn: 1 x 100g of RiverKnits British Bluefaced Leicester 4ply, superwash (400m/437yds per 100g). 1 x 20g of RiverKnits British Bluefaced Leicester mini skeins, superwash (400m/437yds per 100g). Up to a 64 st sock, you only need 1 x mini skein for the contrast cuff, heel and toes. If you are knitting a 68+ stitch sock, you may need 2 x 20g for the heel, toe and cuff colour. If you get gauge, you may be able knit up t0 a 72 st sock with the 20g mini skein.

What is Being Made
Festive Feet Socks is a downloadable knitting pattern designed to create a pair of festive-themed socks in size 7 (EU 40/41, US 9) with a snug 60-stitch circumference. This cuff-down sock pattern is specifically conceived as an accessible project for the holiday season, offering visual interest and decorative techniques without overwhelming complexity. The design is intended for knitters who want an engaging pattern that can be easily set aside and resumed, making it ideal for busy crafters during festive periods.
Techniques Used
The Festive Feet Socks pattern incorporates several intermediate-level knitting techniques that elevate the design beyond basic sock construction:
- Latvian Braid: A traditional decorative braiding technique worked into the knitting to add visual texture and traditional festive appeal
- Jogless Colour Changes: A method for transitioning between yarn colors without creating the characteristic jog that typically occurs when working in the round, resulting in cleaner color work
- Extended Eye of Partridge Heel Flap: A reinforced heel construction using the Eye of Partridge stitch pattern, extended for added durability in a high-wear area
- Colour Changes Without Weaving in Ends: A technique that allows the knitter to incorporate multiple yarn colors while minimizing finishing work, reducing the time spent on post-knitting tasks
Stitches Used
The pattern employs the Eye of Partridge stitch for the heel flap construction, combined with standard stockinette stitch for the main sock body. Color work stitches are integrated throughout using the jogless colour change method to maintain visual continuity in the festive design.
Materials and Specifications
The pattern is designed to work with 3-ply and 4-ply yarn weights, accommodating various yarn bases. The recommended yarn is RiverKnits British BFL 4 Ply, a 100% superwashed Bluefaced Leicester fiber available in 100g skeins (400m/437yds). For this specific size, you will need Yarn A: 57g (227m/248yds) and Yarn B: 18g (71m/77yds).
The pattern requires 2.25mm needles, specifically a short circular needle for the main sock body and 2.25mm double-pointed needles (DPNs) for working the cuff and completing the toe. The use of short circular needles accommodates the small circumference required for sock knitting while maintaining comfortable working tension.
Difficulty Level
Classified as an intermediate difficulty pattern, Festive Feet Socks is suitable for knitters with foundational sock-knitting experience who are ready to expand their technical skills. The pattern balances engaging techniques with manageable complexity, making it accessible for those who have completed basic sock projects but want to develop proficiency with color work and specialized heel construction methods.
