Eternal Love Shawl by rhyFlower Knits

Project Overview

The Eternal Love shawl is an advanced-level knitting pattern designed by rhyFlower Knits as a downloadable PDF. This sophisticated shawl project showcases elegant construction techniques suitable for experienced knitters seeking a challenging and rewarding creation.

What Is Being Made

This pattern produces a beautiful shawl crafted using fingering weight yarn. The finished piece is designed to be worn as a versatile accessory, offering both warmth and elegant drape for various occasions.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

The Eternal Love shawl employs several advanced knitting techniques that create visual interest and structural complexity:

  • Yarn Over Increases: The pattern utilizes yarn overs as a primary increase method, creating decorative eyelets and lace elements throughout the design
  • Multi-Stitch Increases: Advanced stitch techniques include (k1, yo, k1) increases that create 2 stitches from 1 stitch, and (k1, yo, k1, yo, k1) increases that expand a single stitch into 5 stitches, allowing for dramatic shaping and lace patterns
  • Stockinette Stitch: The foundation stitch used in the shawl, creating smooth, classic fabric texture
  • Beading (Optional): The pattern includes optional beadwork, allowing knitters to slip size 6/0 glass beads onto stitches for added embellishment and luxury detail

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Eternal Love shawl requires 861 yards (787 meters) of fingering weight yarn. The suggested yarn is Ancient Arts Yarn Revival in the color Beaujolais Nouveau. This yarn blend combines 49% wool, 34% mohair, 11% nylon, 4% acrylic, and 2% silk, creating a luxurious fiber composition with excellent drape and subtle sheen. Each skein provides 437 yards (400 meters) per 3.5 ounces (100 grams).

Needles and Notions

Knitters will need US5 (3.75 mm) circular needles measuring 40 inches (100 cm), or the size required to obtain proper gauge. The recommended gauge is 20 stitches by 28 rows in stockinette stitch equaling 4 inches (10 centimeters) after blocking. While gauge is noted as not critical since fit is not a primary concern, achieving proper gauge ensures the shawl dimensions are as intended.

Additional notions include a tapestry needle for finishing and weaving in ends. For knitters choosing to incorporate the optional beadwork, a small crochet hook suitable for working with size 6/0 glass beads is recommended. The pattern allows for up to 350 glass beads to be incorporated into the design.

Skill Level and Complexity

This pattern is rated as advanced difficulty, making it ideal for experienced knitters who are comfortable with complex stitch sequences, shaping techniques, and multi-step increases. The combination of lace elements, beading options, and intricate stitch work requires strong foundational knitting skills and the ability to read and follow detailed pattern instructions.
