What is Being Made

The Else Top is a knitted garment designed by Quail Studio, available in nine sizes ranging from 28-30 inches to 60-62 inches bust measurement. This top is constructed using a circular knitting method, creating a seamless garment with a finished bust measurement ranging from 32¾ inches to 64¾ inches depending on the size selected.

Knitting Techniques

This advanced-level knitting pattern employs circular knitting techniques throughout construction. The garment is worked in the round using circular needles of varying lengths, eliminating the need for seaming. The pattern incorporates increases using the M1L (make 1 left-slanting stitch) technique to shape the garment. Stitch markers are used to track pattern repeats and shaping points, while stitch holders are employed to hold stitches during construction phases.

Stitches Used

The primary stitch structure is stockinette stitch (st st), which creates a smooth, classic fabric surface. The pattern utilizes left-slanting increases (M1L) as a key shaping element. Construction involves working in the round without turning, maintaining continuous circular rows throughout the garment.

Materials and Specifications

Yarn: Cotton DK weight yarn from the MODE at Rowan collection. The pattern requires 7 to 11 balls of 50g Cotton DK depending on size, with the photographed sample shown in Celeste 013.

Needles and Tools: The pattern calls for multiple circular needle sizes to accommodate different garment sections:

• 4mm (US 6) circular needles in 40cm, 60cm, and 100cm lengths
• 3.75mm (US 5) circular needles in 40cm and 100cm lengths
• Sets of 4mm (US 6) double-pointed needles
• Sets of 3.75mm (US 5) double-pointed needles
• Stitch markers and stitch holders

Tension: The pattern is worked to a tension of 22 stitches and 28 rows over 10 centimeters measured in stockinette stitch using 4mm (US 6) needles. Achieving correct tension is essential for proper garment fit across all nine sizes.
