Product Description

A sumputous centre cable and raglan sleeves make Dunwich a joy to wear and knit - along with a fabulous wide turtle neckline that sets the cable up beautifully. This is a comforting sweater to knit, especially in Debbie Bliss Aymara, 100% baby alpaca shown here in Twig, with a cloudy soft halo to curl into! Dunwich is knitted flat and seamed.

Dunwich Jumper – Knitting Pattern for Women by Debbie Bliss in Aymara Yarn

The Dunwich Jumper is an advanced-level women's knitting pattern designed by Debbie Bliss, worked in her luxurious Aymara yarn. This beautifully structured pullover sweater is a showcase piece for confident knitters who want to combine bold cable detailing with classic, flattering shaping. The pattern is available as a downloadable PDF and covers four bust sizes ranging from 81–86 cm (32–34 in) up to 112–117 cm (44–46 in), with finished bust measurements spanning 95 cm (37½ in) to 127 cm (50 in).

What Is Being Made

The Dunwich is a seamed, set-in-sleeve jumper featuring a raglan armhole construction. It is worked flat in separate pieces — back, front, and sleeves — then sewn together. The finished garment has a length to shoulder of 62–68 cm (24½–26¾ in) depending on size, and a uniform sleeve length of 46 cm (18 in) across all sizes. The silhouette is classic and substantial, making it an ideal cold-weather wardrobe staple.

Construction Techniques

  • Bottom-up construction: Each piece is cast on at the lower edge and worked upward toward the shoulders, following a traditional flat-knitting approach.
  • Worked flat: The back, front, and sleeves are all knitted as separate flat panels, meaning the knitter works back and forth in rows rather than in the round.
  • Seamed finishing: Once all pieces are complete, they are joined using seaming techniques, giving the jumper structure, durability, and a professional finish.
  • Raglan armhole shaping: The pattern includes carefully written raglan decreases on both right-side and wrong-side rows. Decreases are worked using skpo (slip one, knit one, pass slipped stitch over) and k2tog on knit rows, and p2tog and p2tog tbl on purl rows, creating neat, mirrored shaping lines at the armhole edges.
  • Cable panel construction: A prominent 32-stitch cable panel runs through the design, measuring approximately 9.5 cm (3¾ in) in width. This panel is a central design feature of the Dunwich.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

  • 2x2 Rib (k2, p2): Used for the welts and cuffs, providing elasticity and a neat, structured edge at the cast-on rows. The ribbing is worked for 8–9 repetitions of two rows depending on size.
  • Stocking stitch (st st): The main body fabric is worked in stocking stitch — knit on right-side rows, purl on wrong-side rows — creating a smooth, classic jersey surface.
  • C10B (Cable 10 Back): Slip the next 5 stitches onto a cable needle and hold to the back of the work, knit 5 stitches from the left needle, then knit the 5 stitches from the cable needle. This creates a right-leaning cable cross.
  • C10F (Cable 10 Front): Slip the next 5 stitches onto a cable needle and hold to the front of the work, knit 5 from the left needle, then knit the 5 from the cable needle. This creates a left-leaning cable cross.
  • m1p (make 1 purlwise): Pick up the loop between the last and next stitch from behind and work into the front of the loop purlwise — used for shaping increases.
  • skpo: A left-leaning decrease — slip one stitch, knit one stitch, pass the slipped stitch over.
