Dubai 4 Piece Knitted Set for Reborn Dolls and Babies
Overview
The Dubai 4 piece set is a comprehensive knitting pattern collection designed by Caroline Richards for creating a complete wardrobe for 16–22" reborn dolls or 0–3 month old babies. This intermediate-level knitting project includes four coordinated garments that work together as a cohesive set, perfect for dressing dolls or real infants in matching pieces.
Garments Included
- Booties – Footwear to complete the set
- Hats – Head covering pieces
- Sweaters and Jumpers – Core layering pieces
- Trousers and Leggings – Lower body garments
Sizing Options
The pattern is scaled for three different sizes to accommodate various doll and baby dimensions. The 21–22" doll or 0–3 month baby size requires the most yardage at 250 grams of double knit wool, while the 16–18" doll or premature baby size uses 150 grams of 4-ply wool. The 19–20" doll or newborn baby size falls in between at 200 grams of double knit wool.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This intermediate project employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for crafters with some experience. The pattern uses standard knit stitches as the primary construction method. One specialized technique featured in the set is icord (also called i-cord or idiot cord), which is created using double-pointed needles to produce a decorative cord. The icord technique involves casting on 3 stitches on 3.25mm double-pointed needles, then repeatedly knitting across and sliding the stitches to the opposite needle end while pulling the yarn tightly across the back of the work. This creates a tubular cord that can be used for edging, ties, or decorative accents throughout the garments.
Yarn and Needle Materials
The Dubai set is worked in double knit (DK) weight yarn for the larger sizes and 4-ply yarn for the smallest size, both of which are lightweight and suitable for delicate baby garments. Needle sizes vary by doll or baby size, ranging from 2.75mm to 4mm for the main garment construction. Additional materials include 6mm needles specifically for adding fur texture or embellishment, and 3.25mm double-pointed needles dedicated to the icord technique. The pattern recommends specific yarn brands and colors: Stylecraft Batik DK yarn in Cream (1900), King Cole Cherished DK yarn in Sky (1412), and King Cole Tufty Super Chunky yarn in Beige (2796) for the 21–22" doll size.
Additional Materials
Beyond yarn and needles, the set requires 3 buttons for the hoodie garment, providing functional closures and finishing details to the sweater or jumper piece.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate, this pattern assumes knitters are comfortable with basic stitches and can follow pattern instructions. The inclusion of icord technique and multi-piece garment construction makes it suitable for knitters ready to expand their skills beyond beginner projects.
