Product Description

This is a pattern that comes with a full video tutorial along with written instructions. I used the small universal x loom in the 1/2" gauge and can only be done on a x loom. You will want to work with worsted yarn, and you will need stitch holders and lots of stitch markers. This is an intermediate to advanced pattern for the x loom, as you take parts of the garment off the loom to put back on the loom later. The dress with the way the dress is made it will fit a newborn baby and will also fit the American Dolls and My Life dolls and my bear patterns. So it will fit a wide range of dolls and such. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

What is Being Made

The Double Skirt Doll Dress is a knitted garment designed for dolls, featuring a distinctive two-tier skirt construction. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a charming miniature dress with layered skirt elements, making it an ideal project for crafters looking to expand their doll clothing collection.

Craft and Technique Overview

This project utilizes loom knitting, a technique that differs from traditional needle knitting. Loom knitting involves working yarn around pegs on a specialized loom frame, allowing crafters to create fabric through a series of wrapping and looping techniques. This method is particularly well-suited for creating structured garments like doll dresses, as it provides consistent stitch tension and allows for precise shaping through decreasing techniques.

Stitches and Techniques Used

  • E-Wrap (EW): The foundational wrapping technique where yarn is wrapped around the back of a peg, brought to the front, and wrapped back around to the back, creating the base loops for subsequent rows
  • E-Wrap Chain (EWCH): A variation where E-Wrap stitches are created on a single peg and the bottom loop is tossed over repeatedly, building vertical chains of stitches
  • Flat Knit (K): The primary knitting process involving tossing the bottom loop over the top loops on the pegs to create knitted fabric
  • Yarn Over (YO): Laying working yarn over an empty peg to create new stitches and increase stitch count
  • Decreasing (D): Placing stitches onto adjacent pegs to reduce stitch count, with directional arrows guiding the crafter through the process
  • Wedge Decrease (WD): An advanced decreasing technique involving moving the working wedge down one notch, repositioning stitches to wedge pegs on each side, and knitting two stitches together on the wedge pegs
  • Slip (SL): Skipping a peg from behind and working the next peg, allowing for selective stitch manipulation

Materials Required

This project calls for worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors, with approximately 70 yards needed for each color. The two-color construction creates the visual distinction between the double skirt layers. Crafters will also need a Small ½" Gauge Universal X Loom with a loom hook for working stitches, along with essential accessories including stitch markers for tracking pattern placement and stitch holders for managing active stitches during construction. A crafters needle is required for finishing details and weaving in yarn ends.

Project Format

This downloadable PDF pattern includes a comprehensive video tutorial reference, allowing crafters to visualize techniques and follow along with step-by-step construction. The video index within the pattern provides quick access to specific techniques, making it accessible for intermediate-level knitters new to loom knitting methods.
