Double Cotton Peg Bag
What is Being Made
This is a crochet peg bag designed by Heather Gibbs for Keep Calm and Crochet On UK. The finished project measures 13 x 10.5 inches (33.5 cm x 25.5 cm) and is intended to hold clothespins or pegs. The pattern creates a practical storage solution that can be hung on a coat hanger for convenient access and organization.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Double Cotton Peg Bag employs a straightforward crochet construction method suitable for crafters of various skill levels. The pattern is worked by holding two strands of yarn together throughout the project, which creates a thicker, more durable fabric ideal for a functional household item. The pieces are assembled using a slip stitch edge join technique, where wrong sides are placed facing against each other and stitches are aligned stitch-to-stitch before joining.
Stitches Used
- Treble / Double Crochet (tr/dc): The primary stitch used in this pattern. This stitch is worked by yarning over, inserting the hook into the next stitch and drawing up a loop (creating three loops on the hook), then yarning over and drawing through two loops, followed by yarning over and drawing through the remaining two loops on the hook.
- Slip Stitch: Used to join the edges of the finished pieces together securely.
Materials Required
This pattern calls for 200g of coloured cotton and 200g of dish cloth cotton, worked together as two strands held as one. The pattern is flexible and will work in other yarn weights, though the finished gauge will differ accordingly. A 6mm crochet hook (US size J) is recommended for the specified yarn. The pattern notes that Rico Design Essentials Cotton Blend DK was used in the photographed sample, in shade 010 (Orange) and shade 066 (Grass Green), combined with basic white dish cloth cotton. An optional coat hanger can be used for hanging the finished peg bag.
Additional Pattern Notes
Crafters are advised to check their gauge before beginning, as using different hook sizes can adjust the final dimensions. The pattern is designed for personal use only and is not intended for resale.
