Dornröschen Knee-High Socks by Atalante
What is Being Made
Dornröschen knee-high socks are an intermediate-level knitting project inspired by the classic fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty. The design represents the moment when thorny roses bloom around the tower as the prince comes to rescue Rosamond, capturing the magical intersection of danger and beauty from this beloved story. These socks are available in women's sizes S, M, and L, making them accessible to a range of knitters.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
This pattern employs the magic loop method as its primary construction technique, allowing knitters to work both the instep and sole on circular needles without requiring double-pointed needles. For those preferring traditional methods, the pattern accommodates conversion to double-pointed needles (dpns), with stitches divided across four dpns where needles 1 and 2 form the instep and needles 3 and 4 form the sole. This flexibility makes the pattern accessible to knitters with different tool preferences and experience levels.
Stitches Used
The primary stitch structure is stockinette stitch, which creates the smooth, classic fabric base for these knee-highs. The pattern incorporates decorative rose motifs worked in red yarn, adding visual interest and thematic storytelling to the design. The gauge is 9 stitches per 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) in stockinette stitch, establishing the foundation for proper fit and finished dimensions.
