What is Being Made

This is a knitted tea cosy designed to fit a standard 6–8 cup teapot. The cosy features a charming dog face design and is sized to measure approximately 48 cm all around at its widest part. The design includes openings for the teapot spout (8–9 cm) and handle (11–12 cm), making it both functional and decorative for keeping tea warm while adding a playful animal character to your kitchen.

Knitting Techniques Used

This intermediate-level knitting project employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for crafters with some experience. The pattern uses two needle sizes to control tension and finished dimensions: larger 5.5 mm (US 9) needles for the main body and smaller 4.5 mm (US 7) needles for more detailed sections. The cosy is constructed using the knitted cast-on method and cable cast-on method as specified in the pattern abbreviations. Seaming is required to join pieces together using a tapestry needle, and the finished cosy is stuffed with dacron toy filling to give it structure and shape.

Stitches Used

The pattern utilizes basic knitting stitches including knit (k) and purl (p) stitches worked in stockinette stitch (st st), which creates the smooth, classic knitted fabric that forms the body of the tea cosy. • Notions: Large tapestry needle for sewing seams, dacron toy filling for stuffing, and one pair of 20 mm joggle toy eyes or similar for the dog face

Design Notes

Tension control is critical for this project. The pattern recommends using smaller needles if you have too many stitches, or larger needles if you have too few, to ensure the finished tea cosy reaches the correct dimensions. This attention to gauge is essential for achieving proper fit over a standard teapot.
