This face mask is designed so that it can be worn over the top of a standard surgical paper face mask or on its own. Wearing over a surgical mask gives the protection of the standard mask but with the look of a pretty, handmade item. The surgical mask can be replaced at any time and the crochet mask can be washed. The crochet mask is made of soft cotton and so will not irritate the skin and because it uses the ear loops of the surgical mask (if worn that way) there should be no issue with rubbing on the ears as these ear loops are very soft and stretchy. Instructions are given showing how you can create a mask for either way of wearing. I would recommend adding a lining if you wish to wear on its own to give more protection, or simply place a folded tissue inside which works really well.
