Product Description
This pattern is a wrap that is worked from the center outward. It uses 4 colors. In the knitting world "fading" from one color to another is very popular, so I decided to incorporate this technique into crochet. It can be worked in sport or DK, although I feel sport weight drapes a little nicer.

What is Being Made
The Cro-fade Wrap is a crocheted shawl that adapts the popular "fade" color technique from knitting into a crochet project. This intermediate-level wrap features a four-color design and measures 20" x 72" (51cm x 183cm) before blocking, making it a versatile accessory suitable for layering or draping.
Construction Technique
This wrap is crocheted from the center outward on both sides, creating a symmetrical construction that builds from a center square. This center-out approach allows for balanced color transitions and the signature fade effect that gradually shifts between the four yarn colors throughout the piece.
Stitches Used
- Chain stitch (ch) – foundational stitch for creating the base and turning chains
- Single crochet (sc) – primary stitch used for structure and gauge measurement
- Double crochet (dc) – used to create texture and drape within the pattern
- Popcorn stitch (pcst) – decorative stitch that adds dimensional detail to the wrap
Materials and Specifications
The Cro-fade Wrap uses Sport or DK weight yarn (#2 or 3 weight), with a total yardage of approximately 1,600 yards distributed across four color skeins: 275 yards, 475 yards, 375 yards, and 475 yards respectively. A 5mm (US H/8) crochet hook is used throughout the project, with a gauge of 16 stitches x 12 rows measured over 4" x 4" (10cm x 10cm) in single crochet. A darning needle is required for weaving in ends.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate, this project is suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to explore color work and more complex construction methods. The center-out technique and fade color transitions require attention to pattern instructions and color placement.
