Product Description
Corrugation (noun): a wrinkle; fold; furrow; ridge.
The Corrugation mitts are worked from the bottom to top, with a subtle ridge at the outside of the arm and hand. They are suitable for men as well as women, and are given in a range of sizes.
The pattern gives a table for stitch counts and measurements per size. You then fill in the numbers and measurements that refer to you throughout the pattern.
They be worked 2AAT (two-at-a-time) or one only, using circular needles for magic loop or DPN's - just what you prefer.
Corrugation Gloves and Mittens by Dieuwke Schack-Mulligen
What Is Being Made
Corrugation is a downloadable knitting pattern for gloves and mittens designed by Dieuwke Schack-Mulligen. The pattern creates textured hand coverings featuring corrugated ridges that give the finished pieces visual depth and dimensional appeal. The name references the corrugation technique—wrinkles, folds, furrows, and ridges—that forms the primary design element throughout these hand accessories.
Craft and Technique
This is a knitting project worked in the round, making it ideal for creating seamless gloves and mittens. The pattern is suitable for beginner-level knitters, offering an accessible introduction to in-the-round construction and textured stitch patterns. Knitters can choose their preferred method for working in the round: circular needles or double-pointed needles (DPNs).
Stitches Used
The primary stitch pattern is a ridge pattern worked in the round over a 7-stitch repeat. The ridge pattern alternates between two rounds:
- Round 1: k1, p2, k1, p2, k1 (knit and purl combination)
- Round 2: p2, k3, p2 (purl and knit combination)
This alternating knit and purl sequence creates the corrugated texture characteristic of the design. The pattern also includes the option to work ribbing or a hem, depending on knitter preference. A ridge pattern chart is provided for visual reference.
Materials and Gauge
Yarn: Northbound Knitting Superwash Merino Fingering (100% Merino wool; 400 yards per 100g skein). One skein is required for sizes 1–5, though smaller sizes may require half a skein or less.
Needles: US 2 / 2.75 mm circular needles (80 cm length) or double-pointed needles, depending on preferred construction method. US 5 / 3.75 mm needles are used for the cast-on edge when using two needles held together.
Notions: 4–8 stitch markers, a darning needle, and optional waste yarn if working a hem instead of ribbing.
Gauge: 28 stitches and 34 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch.
Pattern Features
The pattern uses alphabetical stitch count values (A, B, etc.) throughout, allowing knitters to easily customize their own measurements and insert personal values into designated spots. This flexible approach creates a clear, personalized pattern for each knitter. A sizing table on page 6 provides the specific numerical values corresponding to each alphabetical designation, making the pattern adaptable to different hand sizes and preferences.
