Cold Ashby

This warm wrap combines intarsia with illusion / shadow knitting.

Shadow knitting is the more fitting term here as there aren’t any hidden shapes apart from the circle segments in the triangles. The technique, instead, is used to produce the shimmering colour effect of the piece. Because the knitting runs in different directions, not all of this is apparent at the same time, the look being different with each new angle.

Cold Ashby is also a great stashbuster - for one of the background colours (red / orange mix in the sample), oddments can be used in random order.

Skills required:

knit, purl; knit two together, slip slip knit, make one knitwise; cross two single stitches (twist stitches; explained in the pattern); basic intarsia (explained in the pattern); short rows with wrapped stitches (explained in the pattern)
