Product Description
A textured, but classic looking shawl using only 3 stitches. This classic look came about when I decided to make a shawl for a very dear friend, who reminds me that the clean classic look is still beautiful and relevant today. Constructed in a semi-circle, this drapes over your shoulders without the need for a shawl pin. Of course, a shawl pin looks lovely with it, too! Although designed with dk weight yarn, it can be done in many yarn weights to get a lacier or a heavier effect. Advanced Easy level: requires careful following of instructions to achieve the proper shaping. One stitch is not your typical basic stitch, but it's fully explained in the abbreviation section.

Classic Corrine Shawl by Ryan Nicole's Creations
Project Overview
The Classic Corrine Shawl is an intermediate to advanced crochet shawl pattern designed by Ryan Nicole's Creations. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a beautifully shaped wrap featuring a 39-inch wingspan and 20-inch spine, making it an elegant accessory suitable for various occasions and seasons.
What is Being Made
This pattern produces a crescent-shaped shawl with careful construction to achieve proper shaping and drape. The finished dimensions span 39 inches across the wingspan with a 20-inch depth along the spine, creating a versatile wrap that can be worn as a shoulder shawl or draped elegantly around the shoulders.
Craft and Techniques
The Classic Corrine Shawl is created using the crochet technique. While the pattern utilizes only two primary stitches, one of these stitches is non-traditional, requiring careful attention to instructions for proper execution. The pattern emphasizes that success depends on closely following the detailed instructions to achieve the intended shaping and finished dimensions. Crocheters should note that gauge, while not critically important for this project, will affect the final measurements of the completed shawl.
Stitches Used
- Single Crochet (Sc): A fundamental stitch used throughout the pattern
- Cross Double Crochet (Xdc): A specialized stitch requiring the crocheter to skip the next stitch, work a double crochet in the following stitch while going behind the skipped stitch, creating a crossed effect
- Slip Stitch (Sl st): Used for joining and finishing
- Chain (Ch): Used for foundation and spacing
- Double Crochet (Dc): A basic stitch incorporated into the pattern
Materials and Tools
This shawl requires DK or Sport weight yarn, with a yardage requirement of 650 to 750 yards depending on the specific yarn chosen and individual gauge. Crafters will need a size I/9/5.5mm crochet hook and a blunt-end needle for weaving in yarn ends upon completion.
Gauge Information
The pattern specifies a gauge of 11 rows by 16 stitches measured over 4 inches when working alternating rows of cross double crochet and single crochet. While gauge is noted as not extremely critical for this project, variations in individual tension will alter the final wingspan and spine dimensions of the completed shawl.
