What is Being Made

The Choko Vine Socks are a pair of knitted socks featuring a distinctive leafy vine motif that fully encircles the leg. Designed by Sharyn Sutherland under the Twisted Jumbuck design collection, these socks are mirror images of each other, creating a symmetrical finished pair. The design draws inspiration from the choko (chayote) vine, evoking nostalgic memories of the designer's childhood. Two sizes are included in the pattern: one for average female feet and a smaller version suitable for young teenagers.

Techniques Used

The Choko Vine Socks employ several intermediate-level knitting techniques to achieve their distinctive appearance. The pattern utilizes left and right twists throughout the design, creating the characteristic diagonal vine effect without requiring a cable needle. The leafy vine pattern stitches are worked at an angle to the stocking stitch base, which creates visual interest and also reduces the circumference of the sock through the diagonal movement that occurs in every round. This angled construction allows the socks to fit properly despite the large number of cast-on stitches.

Materials
