Product Description
During lockdown we have all missed going out for dinner and so I thought a Chef Tea Cosy Knitting Pattern could bring a bit of cheffing to you. On the menu today the wonderful Chef is knitting up a fishy on a little dishy.
The chef tea cosy is wearing a tall chefs hat and a red and white apron. I love that he looks fat, it looks like he's been tasting the food a little too much.
You can tell that he thinks that the fish is cooked to perfection because of the gesture of his hand. It looks really cute and its a universal sign to say that something tastes great.
The Chef tea cosy is perfect for any foody who also loves a hot brew. I love his little hand gesture. It's not only his cooking that's delicious, he's a bit of a dish as well!
The 6 page knitting pattern contains lots of photos to help and guide you.
The pattern is knitted on two pins and is easy to follow.
This product is the knitting pattern only; to knit your own chef tea cosy.
Chef Tea Cosy Knitting Pattern by TeaCosyFolk
What is Being Made
The Chef Tea Cosy is a knitted tea cosy designed to fit a 2 pint teapot or teapots that hold 6 to 8 cups. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a functional and decorative cover for keeping teapots warm during serving.
Knitting Techniques Used
This pattern employs several fundamental knitting techniques suitable for intermediate crafters. The project begins with a cast-on foundation and incorporates ribbed knitting for the opening edge, which provides elasticity and a neat finish. Stocking stitch forms the main body of the cosy, creating a smooth, classic fabric. The pattern utilizes double thickness yarn in specific sections to add structure and durability where needed, requiring careful attention to pattern instructions regarding yarn preparation.
Stitches Used
- Knit stitch (K): Forms the foundation of stocking stitch sections
- Purl stitch (P): Combined with knit stitches in ribbed edging
- Ribbing (K1, P1): Creates the stretchy opening edge that grips the teapot securely
- Stocking stitch: The primary fabric structure for the main body
Materials and Yarn
This pattern requires DK weight yarn in multiple colors from Stylecraft Special DK: 60g of White (the primary color), 14g of Toy, 9g of Lipstick, 4g of Shrimp, 3g of Walnut, 3g of Citron, and 2g of Black. The White and Lipstick yarns must be divided into two separate balls each to create double thickness yarn where the pattern specifies. Knitting needles in two sizes are required: 5.5mm (UK size 5 or US size 9) for the main cosy construction, and 4.00mm (UK size 8 or US size 6) for finishing details. Additional materials include a stitch holder for managing stitches during construction and polyester stuffing for shaping the cosy.
Pattern Construction Details
The main cosy begins with casting on 28 stitches using double thickness White yarn on the larger 5.5mm needles. The opening edge is worked in K1, P1 ribbing for four rows to create a neat, elastic finish. Following the ribbed section, the pattern continues with stocking stitch for 12 rows, beginning with a knit row on the right side. Double thickness Lipstick yarn is then joined to introduce color work. The pattern specifies a tension of 22 stitches and 28 rows measuring 10x10cm, which helps ensure the finished cosy fits properly on the intended teapot size.
