Product Description
The sweater is worked in the round from the top down. You cast on at the neckline, knit the yoke, the sleeves are placed on a stitch holder, or waste yarn, the body is completed and then the sleeves are knitted in the round. Sleeves are quite fitted which shows up the beautiful lace pattern running down the centre, The sweater has very little positive ease, length of the sweater is meant to come to the top of the hips. For a looser fitting sweater it is recommended you work a size larger. This is a great pattern for those who have mastered the art of knit and purl, and ready to work on a simple lace pattern. Schematic and chart for the lace pattern, as well as the lace pattern written out in full. Best of all.... no seaming!! A great pattern for the older girls, teenagers and adult women.
Yarn: The Yarn Collective ‘Fleurville’ 4ply Merino Wool – 350m / 383 yrds per 100 grams).
Colour suggestion: Brunia (607) or Hibiscus (602) Both colours were featured in the images provided.
Chantilly Lace Sweater by OGE Knitwear Designs
What is Being Made
The Chantilly Lace Sweater is a knitted pullover garment designed by OGE Knitwear Designs, available in both children's and adult sizes. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a finished sweater featuring lace detailing, with size options ranging from 6-8 years through to adult large. The sweater is designed to be a versatile wardrobe piece suitable for various occasions and seasons.
Techniques Used
This pattern employs lace knitting techniques as the primary design feature, creating an elegant openwork pattern characteristic of Chantilly lace styling. The construction uses circular knitting methods with double-pointed needles and circular needles, allowing for seamless or minimal-seam construction. The pattern incorporates stitch markers to track pattern repeats and shaping, essential for maintaining accuracy in lace work where yarn overs and decreases create the decorative openwork effect.
Stitches Used
While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, lace knitting patterns typically employ yarn overs to create holes and decreases (such as knit two together or slip-slip-knit) to maintain stitch count while forming the lace motif. The pattern uses stitch markers to delineate pattern sections, with one distinctly different marker to identify the beginning of rounds, a standard practice in circular knitting.
Materials Required
- Yarn: The Yarn Collective 'Fleurville' 4ply Merino Wool (350 metres / 383 yards per 100 grams). Yardage requirements vary by size: children's sizes require 650-825 metres, while adult sizes require 930-1350 metres.
- Needles: 3.75mm (US 5 / UK 9) double-pointed needles and 3.75mm (US 5 / UK 9) circular needles for seamless construction
- Notions: Nine stitch markers (with one distinctly different marker to denote round beginning), two stitch holders for managing stitches during construction
Size and Fit Information
The Chantilly Lace Sweater is offered in seven size options: children's sizes 6-8 years, 8-10 years, and 10-12 years, plus adult sizes XS, S, M, and L. Finished chest measurements range from approximately 68cm (27¼ inches) for the smallest children's size to 107cm (42¾ inches) for the adult large. Total garment length varies from 38.5cm (15½ inches) for young children to 56.5cm (22½ inches) for adults, with sleeve lengths ranging from 29.5cm to 42.5cm depending on size.
