Yarn:
- Fingering (pictured in gray): Quince & Co. Tern; (pictured in Stonington) 910 yds for shawl, 715 yds for scarf
- Sport: Quince & Co. Chickadee; 730 yds for shawl, 560 yds for scarf
- DK (pictured in blue): Dirty Water Dye Works, Edna; (pictured in Moon Shadow) 495 yds for shawl, 415 yds for scarf
Needles: (32 inch circular needles for the shawl or straight needles for the scarf)
- Fingering: Size 3 (3.25 mm)
- Sport: Size 5 (3.75 mm)
- DK: Size 7 (4.5 mm)
Catalyst is a shawl/scarf pattern with 6 different options. Simply by changing the amount of stitches cast on and how many rows worked, the shape of the piece is changed dramatically. With more stitches cast on and fewer rows, the shape is shawl-like, worked from the bottom up. With fewer stitches cast on and more rows worked, the shape is more of a scarf, with a pointed tip at one end and a forked tongue at the other. Both shapes are very wearable and unique.
