What Is Being Made

The Cass is a large, open snood — sometimes called a circle scarf or infinity-style wrap — knitted in a single size. Its generous dimensions make it versatile enough to drape loosely around the shoulders, pull up over the head as a hood, or wrap multiple times around the neck for extra warmth. Three decorative tassels are added during finishing: one at the center point of the scarf and one at each end, giving the piece a bohemian, handcrafted finish.

Materials Used

• Yarn: 2 hanks of Berroco Mojo (100 grams each), in colorway #8008 Enchantment. Berroco Mojo is a super chunky weight yarn, ideal for quick knits and bold, textural results.
• Needles: A 29-inch circular knitting needle, size 15 (10.00 mm), or the size needed to obtain gauge. The circular needle accommodates the large stitch count comfortably without the need to work in the round — the piece is knitted flat on circular needles.
• Notions: 1 stitch marker and a tapestry needle for finishing.

Gauge

The pattern calls for a gauge of 6 stitches and 18 rows over 4 inches in Garter Stitch. As with all knitting projects, taking time to check gauge before beginning is strongly recommended to ensure the finished measurements are accurate.

Techniques and Construction

The Cass snood is worked flat on a long circular needle, using straightforward techniques that are well within reach of a beginner knitter. The construction involves simple increasing — stitches are added every other row a total of 11 times to reach 100 stitches — followed by a single knit row before binding off. This gradual shaping creates the characteristic arc or crescent shape of the snood.
